2008 NBA Second to DET

Post#1 » by shrink » Sat May 24, 2008 3:02 pm

Minnesota's own 2008 2nd round pick to Detroit, provided that Minnesota shall have the option to defer the conveyance by one year if it notifies Detroit and the League Office 30 days prior to the 2008 Draft. If Minnesota elects to defer, then it shall trade its own 2009 2nd round pick to Detroit

The NBA Draft is on June 26th, so decision to defer needs to come by Monday or Tuesday. Has anyone heard anything?

Of course, I prefer that we defer. I doubt our pick next season will be better than #34. However, I've heard rumors that McHale only wants one second round pick. I'd like to hear about a deal being made to use a pick to move up in the next few days.

I really don't see why Minny would give it this year, other than the fact they already have another high 2nd and don't want to move into the late first.

As a Pistons fan, I'd be ok with giving Minny #29 for their 2 second rounders and calling the trade good... so Minny wouldn't owe Detroit another pick.

Basically swapping 29 for 31 in order to get Minny to give up #34 to Detroit this year.

i doubt very much that we WILL hear anything, it's just not a newsworthy action. It will just be deferred to next year.
Thriving on mediocrity since '89.

OK, this news is a week overdue. Somebody has to know whether we get this pick this year or not, right?

"The T-Wolves have informed us that they're going to keep the pick this year," Dumars said via e-mail. That means the pick, which was acquired in exchange for Ronald Dupree, will belong to Detroit in the 2009 NBA draft, regardless of where it falls in the second round.

Excellent news and it makes sense with the potential 3 firsts next year. Good find and thanks for the update.
