I played with Gomes BYC, trying to salary match in the narrow landing strips. Here are some sample offers. I'm not excited by any ofthem.
A Gomes + McCants + Madsen package would be $9.25 ($7.25 going out) The target range there becomes $7.32 to $9.16.
$8.5 mil Mehmet Okur
$9.0 mil Caron Butler
$7.4 mil Steve Blake + Channing Frye
$7.8 mil Barbosa + Tucker + Strawberry
$9.0 mil Strom Swift + Marcus Williams + Boone or Sean Williams
$8.3 mil Darko + Crittendon or Lowry
$8.3 mil Felton + Adam Morrison
Gomes + McCants or Madsen ($5.216 to $5.875). You pick which is used based on value
$5.7 Varejao
$5.5 Jeff Foster (exp)
$5.3 Keith Van Horn (unguaranteed) + Sean Williams
$5.5 Julian Wright + Rasual Butler (2 yr)
$5.3 Steve Blake and Rudy Fernandez (or is it Sergio Rodriguez?, I get the two mixed up)
$5.7 Spencer Hawes + Sheldon Williams
$5.6 Jason Hart + Jarron Collins + Ronnie Price/Morris Almond

Re: Gomes Trades I do not Like
I think the perfect place for Gomes is Washington. They could use Gomes as a back-up for Butler and Jamison, because those two have injury concerns and need to stay fresh for their playoff run. Washington has a lot of centers this year, we could take one of their hands.
Gomes and a 1st (Bost or Utah?) for Andray Blatche and filler?
Gomes for Etan Thomas and a 1st?
Gomes for Antonio Daniels (YES PLEASE!)

Gomes can fit in anywhere. I think he'd be great in SA post-Robert Horry, for example. I think he'd be good back with the C's. Faster teams where he could play more PF like Phoenix or GS or Toronto or often mentioned. I'm surprised that another team hasn't offered Gomes a contract so far.

Re: Gomes Trades I do not Like
OK, here's a weird one .. simultaneous trade with PHO:
Diaw for Gomes, McCants, Madsen
Barbosa for Cardinal
Diaw makes $9 mil/year, and Barbosa averages $6.85 mil/year, but the worst part is that both contracts run through 2012.
I like the reasonably-priced Barbosa (though its still a question in PHO whether he can be a true PG), but personally, I wouldn't do this deal. Those extra years are just too scary for me, particularly after all the work McHale has done to have nothing but good contracts by next summer (Madsen is OK, Cardinal becomes an expiring). Diaw is a hard player to understand, and its possible both may have setbacks when moved out of the PHO system.
I suppose the non-Gomes alternative would be McCants + Madsen for Barbosa. If PHO would accept either, would you want to add the Gomes + Cardinal for Diaw alternative?
Personally, I wouldn't want either.

BTW, McCants and Barbosa's numbers are quite similar, but remember Barbosa may be inflated by playing in PHO, and a few extra minutes.

There is no way we could get Carin Butler for Gomes and McCants. Caron is one of my favorite players, and I would instantly forgive McHale for every bad trade if he could pull it off, but it would make absolutely no sense for Washington, in my opinion.
Jefferson
Love
Butler
Miller
Foye
That would be my favorite Wolves line up of all time.

You're probably right. I view Gomes and McCants as two borderline NBA starters, and WAS' biggest need is SG. I don't think they'd ever do it, but we'd certainly need to incentivize it (picks, Etan-for-Collins (exp)). I like Butler a lot too, but great SG-SF swingmen are a lot easier to replace that great players at other positions.
