For starters it's not possible to have team options like that, so it's not like it was a choice between the two. The advantage though would be that we don't have to decide by a certain day that we don't want him any more. So we can go into the 2010 offseason with him under contract, and then if we find some free agent that we want and we need Gomes off the books then we can do it at that point. The decision can be made once we find a way to spend that extra money, it doesn't have to be made at the start of the offseason like it does with option years.
