How does us sending out salary help facilitate a dual BYC S&T ,especially when one of the guys we are sending is also BYC just to complicate things further?

Wright is a defensive big. That means he should be able to play well alongside all our offense-oriented bigs (which we have a few). He can play alongside Al. He can play with Craig. You can put him with Love. I probably would recommend having him and Collins together though, unless its garbage time.

Agreed. From what it sounded like Golden State was working on a sign and trade for Smith. The problem was that Golden State doesn't have the picks to make it work. So we would get Wright and Bellini and trade McCants/Carney, a TPE, and one or two firsts (hopefully Philly and Boston).

It makes sense as Wright would be a great big to add and Bellini fills the combo guard position. Additionally giving up McCants/Carney would allow us to sign Gomes and give him, Miller, and Brewer enough PT. Also we wouldn't sign Richard.

This would not work out for the Hawks. We would be taking too much into our salary.

I dont think I want this trade to go down. We love the little bigs around here.

I think that this would be a great trade for the wolves. I know everybody is caught up in the fact that he is another PF, but it is his skillset that would be a great compliment to both Love and Big Al. He hasn't been able to prove much in the league thus far, whether that is his fault or nellie's inability to play/give chances to young bigs, but he has the potential to be a great defensive player in the paint. He would be a great shotblocking presence in the paint for us, and we already have plenty of first round picks and wing players. This leaves us with a more balanced rotation in my opinion. If it ends up being Bellinelli+Wright for Gomes/Mccants/Miami pick, I would run with a 10 man rotation of:

Foye/telfair
Miller/belli
Brewer/carney
love/wright/smith
jeff/wright/collins

I think this trade doesn't have a great probability of going through cause from what it sounds would be solely based around another trade for josh smith, which I find to be rather unlikely. If it does happen though, it would leave us with a more balanced rotation and after the trade the wolves could try to sign a cheaper swingman to fill out the roster (i.e. devean george)

I don't know if Belinelli is in the deal at all. I just threw it out there because I remember McHale saying that we still wanted one of those combo-guards, because those guys that can play three positions are so useful. It sounded to me like he missed Marko, and Marco looks like a guy that fit that description. An injury to either Foye or Telfair would be pretty dangerous for us at PG, and if Gomes and Richard sign, it brings us to 15 players. I also just read this on the trade board:

gswhoops wrote:The writing's on the wall...What can we get for Belinelli?

The W's matched Azubuike's offer sheet with the Clippers and just signed Anthony Morrow, a 3pt specialist SG, off the summer league team. It appears pretty clear that Marco's not going to get much playing time. So, what are your offers? 6-6, 195lbs SG who has some PG skills and a nice shot.

I also think Gomes and McCants would fit well with the Warriors style of play.

Anyway, Belinelli makes some sense to me, however I just wanted to make sure people understood that I don't have any specific information for including him.

Also, while Carney still can't be combined in a trade until August 29th, he can be traded seperately. These following can be done as two seperate trades.

Marco Belinelli 1,446,720 for Rodney Carney 1,655,760

Brandan Wright 2,497,320 for Rashad McCants 2,620,126

This saves us about $335,000 up front, but it should be noted that both McCants and Carney could be off the books by Summer of 2010 (if we didn't make a qualifying offer or extension), but Belinelli and Wright's deals are guaranteed until 2011.

Rodney Carney 1,655,760 2,539,936 (3,568,610 qo)
Rashad McCants 2,620,126 (3,644,595 qo)

Brandan Wright 2,497,320 2,671,440 3,398,072 (4,580,601 qo)
Marco Belinelli 1,446,720 1,547,640 2,380,270 (3,377,604 qo)

Anyway, I wanted to point out the Wright/Belinelli package works with McCants/Gomes or McCants/Carney. If we did this deal with Carney and McCants, I also would feel better about a "multi-year" deal with Gomes, since Carney would not need minutes, and McCants departure would mean Mike Miller would play more minutes at SG.

Since Gomes is now in the fold, I would rather see him start and move Brewer for Wright...just like it should've happened in the first place (I hated the Brewer pick from the moment it happened and thought Wright should have been the pick there)...I understand that we are short on guard/wing defenders, but IMO the team is better with Miller/Gomes/McCants rotation at the 2/3 than having Brewer in the mix...and when you combine that with the rotation of Love/Big Al/Wright/Smith in the post, it is even more enticing...not sure if the Boston or Philly pick would have to be included, but wouldn't matter to me...

If this trade has any legs to it, I'm almost certain that Gomes/McCants are the cornerstones from the Wolves' angle.

Seems like they want to improve the transition game by adding athletic bigs and wings. Brewer, Wright, Carney fit that more than Gomes/McCants.

I agree. For the Wolves, this may be a way to get some value for McCants upfront before the season starts, and Gomes is very possibly the key to the deal. All theory, but IF the rumor has any legs, I think it's pretty clear Brewer & Wright are the long/athletic type of players the Wolves want in the mix moving forward.

I like Gomes alot, but still question his upside as we move forward. he's a true SF, but I feel he's already peaking and lacks floor speed for his position. Wright has much more upside (still a risk) and seems to fit a rebuilding team a little better. Could help alot defensively. Wright was a player we liked in the past, but it was decided he was not a good fit along-side KG due his build and position.

in a nutshell, I think Wright would be a great addition at this time, especially, if we can get value for McCants now. He can play some SF/PF as well. He is not the physical type like Gomes nor does he have a 3-point shot, but his athleticism and skill inside of 15 feet are a notch or two up. Including Belinelli in return would be fine in my book.

If the Warriors want Josh Smith they don't need to include Minnesota in the trade. Sounds like a very unreliable he said, she said rumor.

Doesn't seem to make very much sense.

Oh, and a quick glance at the OP's post history paints him as a major Blazers homer.

I'm no salary cap expert, but I do know that when BYC compensation players are involved in trades (which Smith would be) a third team often needs to be involved...thus MN's involvment in the ATL-GSW swap. Then again this may be a completely unsubstaniated rumor....really no way to tell.

According to a poster on RUbe Chat, Banks has more or less said the same thing.

Yes, but our man banks336 posted a similar rumor yesterday morning on TWolvesCentral saying there could be this same type of deal, and we know how reliable he is.

Edit: oops didnt see the above post

I hope this is true, I see how logically it makes sense. Especially, if the deal involves a couple of wings for us. I see it this way. Wright is a young, untapped, limitless potential big. Craig Smith and Jason Collins are niche players. I am not overly concerned with the "another PF" aspect. Plus, if it clears up the wing glut a little bit, I am ok with that. Either way, if we get Wright for anyone outside of Love, Brewer, Jefferson, or Foye, we are getting a player with far more potential than we're giving.

+1

as I'm reading a few pre draft articles about Wright I'm quite happy to see us in trade talks to get him. he could be the athletic help side defender we'd need alongside Big Al and Love. what I like about him is that the potential he has is outstanding. the things he has to work on (gain weight, improving range) are things that are easier to work on than other stuff such as defense or a feel to the game.

if we could get him for carney and one of the "worse" 1st rounders I'd wet my pants.

To get Wright, Wolves have to be adding value somewhere besides McCants or Carney or the Boston/Utah picks. Maybe the Miami pick, maybe taking back a bad contract (for Booth? Or Collins, or both?). It just doesn't add up otherwise.

Original Post:

I'm not sure how true this is, I'm just telling you'll what I know but from what I heard there could be some kind of trade between Minny, Atl, and GS...McCants or Carney + Bellanili, a pick, & Al harrington ending up in ATL... Josh Smith going to GS.... B Wright coming to MInny.... I don't know how Sign & trades work but it seems like that's what will have to happen with J. Smith in order for the deal to happen.

If the 3 way deal doesn't happen then a smaller deal may take place between GAS and Minny because GS thinks they may lose Beindris to an overseas because he's getting double digit offers...

This all is pretty confusing but I'm just posting what I hear, I might have more to share when I return from workouts.
