MIN - MIA - PHI

Post#1 » by VelvetPancakes » Tue Aug 11, 2009 9:47 pm

Bored and procastinating, tell me what you think!

(delayed because of Songaila)

MIN Trades:
Al Jefferson -- $12,000,000 -- 4 years
Darius Songaila -- $4,500,000 -- 2 years
Corey Brewer -- $2,900,000 -- 1 year
Jonny Flynn -- $32,900,000 -- 2 years

MIN Receives:
Andre Iguodala - $12,200,000 -- 5 years
Michael Beasley -- $4,600,000 -- 1 year
Udonis Haslem -- $7,100,000 -- 1 year

MIA Trades:
Michael Beasley -- $4,600,000 -- 1 year
Mark Blount -- $7,900,000 -- 1 year
Udonis Haslem -- $7,100,000 -- 1 year

MIA Receives:
Elton Brand -- $14,800,000 -- 4 years
Jonny Flynn -- $2,900,000 -- 2 years
Corey Brewer -- $2,900,000 -- 1 year
Mareese Speights -- $1,600,000 -- 1 year

PHI Trades:
Andre Iguodala -- $12,200,000 -- 5 years
Elton Brand -- $14,800,000 -- 4 years
Mareese Speights -- $1,600,000 -- 1 year

PHI Receives:
Al Jefferson -- $12,000,000 -- 4 years
Darius Songailia -- $4,500,000 -- 2 years
Mark Blount -- $7,900,000 -- 1 year

Why for Min?
Gets rid of the logjam at PF, trading AJ for another young potential all-star in Iggy. Still won't be a complete team, but we stay young, get more athletic. Will probably need to pick up a FA and/or some draft picks to fill out the roster. Also grabs Haslem's expiring, and gets rid of Songailia's 2010 space.

Rubio/FA,Draft
Iggy/Ellington
Beasley/Gomes
Love/Beasley
Pekovic/Hollins/Draftpick,FA?

Why for Mia?
Trades two expirings and Beasley (still a prospect) for Brand, who can produce now and maybe entice D-Wade to stay, along with two more great young prospects in Flynn and Speights. Heat still has room for a max FA next year. Instead of depending strictly on the 2010 FA (where they may not be able to draw a star), this may give Wade a reason to sign an extension now. Brewer gives some depth and defense, and is an expiring as well.

Flynn/Chalmers
Wade/Wright/Cook
Jones/Brewer
Brand/Speights
O'Neal/Magloire

Why for Phi?
Exchanges one young player for another. Gets rid of Brand's contract, gets an expiring but has to take Songaila's contract in return. Stays young, builds for the future.

Holiday/Williams
Williams/Green/Kapono
Young/FA?
Jefferson/Songaila/Smith
Dalembert/Blount

I very much dislike this trade. Jefferson is too good by himself, but then to throw in Flynn on top of it - I don't like it - We need to make trades where we pick up the best player in the trade - not give up the best player.

This is a very bad trade. Biff gave the reasons, but also it lacks direction.

You also have the contract lengths wrong for rookies.

I didn't put in the team option years for the rookie contracts. You guys are probably right though -- I'm just trying to find a way to make the team more athletic, improve the defense, and prep for when Rubio comes over. I saw Jefferson as a bit better than Iggy, and Beasley as a bit better than Flynn. Thanks for your input!

No problem. Let me give you some tips for what it is worth.

1.) Simple is better. Complex trades with multiple teams and players hardly ever happen.

2.) teams and fans overvalue their young talent. We put our faith, hope and dreams in that young player. The teams market that young player. It is very difficult to move young players.

3.) Use trade checker or the ESPN version to help with the cap stuff.

We go from a short frontcourt of Love/Jefferson to an even shorter frontcourt of Beasley/Love. I don't think so.

Maybe I am guilty of the "teams and fans overvalue their young talent" that Rev speaks of, but I consider Jefferson to already be in the top 15 to 20 players in the league. He is on a very reasonable contract. My (somewhat limited) knowledge of Iggy is that he is probably top 25 to top 35 level talent in the league. I am all for balancing the roster, but I think you are undervaluing Jefferson in the process.

No way is Jefferson in the top twenty in the league. He is one dimensional on offense (granted, spectacular at that dimension) and an excellent rebounder. The rest of his game is very bad to mediocre.

Name 5 Centers better than Jefferson please.

I agree it lacks direction. Not only does it leave our already questionable backcourt without a PG for 2 years, but it turns our frontcourt from questionable in size to even smaller and weaker with less experience.

I will give it credit for giving us a new SF in Beasley with some potential and a bright future and someone on the to play defense in Iggy.

Miami is the clear winner here, i don't see any reason for most of these teams to do this deal. I'm not sure anyone would do a 2 for 1, Iggy/Beasley for Jefferson, muchless throw in Flynn,Brewer and an expiring

I appreciate people with an awareness for their own biases, but you'll be happy to know that you're evaluating fairly here.

Over on the Trade Board, posters from all the different teams have been voting on the Most Valuable Players. With his production, age, size, and locked up in a decent contract, Al Jefferson is about to come in #12.

Bad trade for the Wolves. Beasley's defense is horrible and he's a midget PF. We end up with no one who can start at center. I think it's funny that you're trying to clear the logjam at PF yet you trade two of them for two.

Off the top of my head, these 5 guys are all better centers than Jefferson:

Dwight Howard
Pau Gasol
Brook Lopez
Kevin Garnett
Andrew Bynum

They are all better defensive players and better passers as well as being effective in the low post. Plus they all know how to do that without dominating the ball. I'm sure you can think of others yourself. For example, if Duncan is healthy again he'd obviously be on the list. Jefferson is a good player, but border-line all-star is about it for him.

Kendrick Perkins plays C for Boston, not KG.

Bynum's better than Jefferson? Interesting...

Great list.... just kidding

1) KG is definitely a PF
2) Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum are on the same team... one of them is there PF and it's Gasol, as for Bynum, he's not as good as Jefferson sorry
3) Brook Lopez is a good C and could very well end up being a better overall player, but right now Jefferson is by far the better player.

-So from your list, 2 guys are PF, 2 guys are young guys with potential and could be better but have a ways to go, and then there is Howard who is definitely better than Jefferson.

Yeah, that list cracks me up. mandurugo is like the anti-homer for the Wolves. He posts here but hates everything they do.

At first glance this trade looks alright, but Beasley hasn't shown he's a power forward, and we already have love anyways. If Iguodala could play shooting guard I would consider this trade.
