Official Gerald Green Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by NyCeEvO » Mon Mar 19, 2012 9:09 pm

He hasn't left us or anything like that.

But since he's come up from the D-League, he's been playing great (markedly better than MarShon I might add).

On top of that, here are his latest comments regarding his contract status (from Fred Kerber):

But it takes two to sign on the dotted line and Green admitted the decision was mutual and predicted he’s be on the Nets next season – if the team wants him.

“Definitely mutual,” Green said of the veteran’s minimum deal for the rest of this season that came following a pair of 10-day contracts. “I’m not going anywhere and hopefully they don’t want me to go anywhere and I’ll be here.”

Green said the decision to limit his signing on Sunday for the final 20 games was done to aid the Nets’ “flexibility” for any moves this summer.

“Me being here is good. I think the team wants me here,” Green said. “Next year, I don’t think I’m going anywhere. I’m going to be here and I think we can definitely work something out. I wanted the team to have all the flexibility it could for what they want to do in the offseason so they’re fine with that. I’m not trying to go anywhere. So we’ll just finish out this season and see how it goes.”

The Nets better re-sign this dude. Both Humphries and now Green have given the Nets great play and have helped the organization by agreeing to deals that will help us remain flexible.

If King makes another "win-now" move and doesn't re-sign Green, I'll be very upset.

I was disappointed that he wasn't extended to next season, but reading this made me feel better about it. Hope we keep this guy. We hadn't had a high flyer since VC left. Glad we have someone that can complete an alley-oop properly.

Yea, it's good to hear that he wants to be here next season as well. He has been playing really well lately, I hope he can keep this level of play.

Official Gerald Green Appreciation Thread

That's a humble guy right there, love the fact he appreciates that we've given him quality minutes & a 2nd chance.

Love the fact he's helping us out cap wise. I've not doubt the Nets will resign him. We have his rights so we can go over the cap.

Hopefully this is one of the moves leading to a big trade or signing like Gordon.

I really appreciate what greens doing for us. He really doesn't owe us anything

The very least he could do is re-sign with us, but I heard his agent wasn't looking for him to sign a contract now that would make him stay with the Nets next season.....true or not?

Pretty sure it was mutual like he said.

BK wants to sign older, over-the-hill players that block up our cap space.

Makes sense from a financial standpoint, Green keeps this up and he can earn a nice two-year deal from someone with cap space. I don't believe leaving the Nets would be wise for Green's basketball career (he has a defined niche which he is excelling in), but can't blame a guy for leaving if he's going to get paid...

cool article from fred kerber on the post today.

http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/nets/dee ... ntent=Nets

i think we could do worse then starting green next year...after eric gordon i dont really see any other guard that i would help us in terms of production vs contract. i know the nets have other huge holes that need to be addressed but...ive grown quite fond of mr green.

green's quickly become a favorite of mine. he gives effort on d, he sprints the floor, and his jumper, both the fadeaway off the dribble and spotting up, is much better than i expected. i mean he's been an insanely successful one on one player for us, he just jumps over people and drills that j. plus he gets the team hyped as ****. hope he's a net next year, regardless of what happens with deron.

Its still amazes me what maturity does for an NBA player...how well grounded Green has been on and off the court as well as his perspective on the future has been absolutely refreshing to the Nets organization...I don't want him going anywhere else...

Green is one of the few players who are willing to stay with us. (add Hump & Brook)
“I’m not going anywhere and hopefully they don’t want me to go anywhere and I’ll be here.”

I just hope Deron would learn to embrace this team... as his own.

I hope the Nets sign Green to a 3 year deal at least.

2012-13 Brooklyn Nets

Lopez/Shelly/Petro
Humpty/J.Williams
Wallace/Brooks
G.Green/Morrow
D-Will/Farmar
Houston 1st rnd pick

Thats a playoff team if they can stay healthy.I would only bring Humpty back on another one year contract though. Then go after J.Smith hard through trade or free agency.

Green just confirmed he's playing tonight, despite having a tooth pulled.

I'd trade Brooks with the Houston pick to move up to late lotto range and push hard for Bogdanovic to come over in 2012 so that we can take the BPA with the pick, Lamb, Henson, Marshall or someone I quite like Leonard.

Still want to go hard after Gordon though :p

From ND:
In talking with Fred Kerber Wednesday, Gerald Green reiterated that he wants to stay with the Nets next season and even said he'd reward the Nets with a hometown discount during free agency this summer.

"Most definitely I would," Green said without pause when asked if he would take less money to sign with Brooklyn. "I’m about loyalty and this team was the first team to pick me up for the year. They gave me an opportunity. They gave me a shot. Look what they’re doing. Our record doesn’t speak for itself. We’re a lot better team than our record says."

BOOM!

Green's coming back!

BOOM!

This makes the Gerald Wallace trade even worse!

Sorry, couldn't help myself. It's just the cynic in me.

If he does take less money, then phase one of the rebuild is complete. Next, the Nets just need to trade for Blatche, and the team is done rebuilding and ready for contention.

Farmar/Gaines
Morrow/Brooks
Green/Bogdanovic
Blatche/Williams
Lopez/Petro

Boom.

Brings tears in my eyes...
