Director of Analytics Role

Post#1 » by eitanr » Tue Sep 30, 2014 3:16 pm

Not sure if anyone saw this, but last week the team posted an ad for a director of analytics role. Here's a link to the netsdaily article on it as well:

Not sure how this will bode with the coach Hollins. Anyone on here apply for the role? Curious to hear everyone's thoughts.

Every team uses analytics.

This guy will be dealing with the GM/Front Office people. Not Lionel Hollins at all. This doesn't effect Hollins in the least.

We lost our analytics director to Detroit. I don't think this is going to affect Hollins at all. Hollins doesn't hate analytics, so highly doubt he will have a problem with having a stats guru beside him, he just won't tolerate numbers shoved down his throat for coaching strategies.

They want this person to also speak with Hollins' staff, but provide far more high level info. For example, don't provide info on jump ball scenarios and winning percerntages on jumps.

More like when x player is in the game, your assist rate increases by y% and oh btw in wins the Nets are a +z% in assists.

Yep. Pretty sure his own two eyes will tell him everything that he needs to know.

There isn't a stat for maximum effort.

Anyone have any updates if the team found someone to fill this role?

There are two stats roles available actually. There's the director position and another position that looks like maybe the #2 guy behind the director. One position seems to be more focused on working directly with the HC and his staff, the other position seems more focused on analyzing SportsVu data and getting it categorized properly. Both roles seem very hands-on in terms of creating and maintaining a database.

Both seem interesting. Would love to hear what becomes of these positions.
