We are talking about who are the best players so far in the draft and not who can be the best. Right? If so, then what are the reasons for Gallinari being better than Love?

So, factoring in potential, do take all those players before Gallo?

I'm going through Gallo withdrawal, I can't wait to see how he develops on a hopefully more stable team. He was a great draft pick, it's been a long time since I've seen a Knick with so many intangibles and I just love his game.

Also congrats on justdatdude for being the first and only member of my ignore list.

If Gallo continues on the uphill trajectory he has followed from rookie season until now, expect borderline all-star next season. The sky is the limit for this kid.

Dude has to prove hes more then a 15 and 5 guy with no other mentionable stats, who got flattened for 1 out of 2 seasons.

No more excuses that Dudus not passing to him.

I think this sums it up. I love the new additions, but I've always been a fan of building with your own homegrown guys and watching them develop and grow with the team. I can't wait to see how Gallo has developed this offeseason.

The only plalyer I would take over Gallo from the 08 draft would be Derrick Rose.

Mayo is an undersized scoring two guard who, while really good at what he does, doesn't do much other than score. A talent, but definitely not nearly as valuable a player as Gallinari.

Westbrook is a great player but an overrated point guard. Playing alongside the best young scorer in the league helped him put up gaudy assist numbers. His rebounding is very good for his size, but he's a mediocre to bad shooter.

Brook Lopez is a center who put up 19/9/2 on one of the worst teams of all time. His defense is overrated and he still looks a little stiff on offense. However because of his position I can see people taking him over Gallo. I wouldn't personally.

I completely agree. I think within 2 yrs, Gallo is clear cut behind Rose.

Factoring potential, I would take 4 of those 5 players over Gallinari. Leaving Kevin Love off. If we add in the rest of the draft class I would put Randolph and Beasley ahead of Gallinari as well. Its not that I don't think Gallinari is a good player or will be a great player, but I think those players are better and will be better than him. Some Knicks fans feel he'll be Dirk Nowitzki lite, but I don't see him as being that good. I don't see him as ever being a top 10 or top 15 player, though its not out of the question. If he does reach the ceiling some Knicks fans have for him, I can't see it being on this team with him playing small forward.

To me what showed his upside as potentially an all star is the way he went at Melo and KG, not backing down at all, and leading his team to wins. Not just getting his numbers and the team loses, but leading his team to wins over very good teams in games where he had face to face, trash talking duels with two of the better players in the league.

I can respect your evaluation. I can't really say that if I had to do it again, I would take Lopez over Gallo, nor would I take Westbrook if we were to play him at point. Westbrook at the 2? Sure, with a true PG I'd take.

Knowing what I know now about this draft, and factoring in the skills, potential, and actual probability in fulfilling that potential, I think my order would be:

Rose
Mayo
Westbrook
Gallo
Lopez
Gordon
Beasley
Love

You keep saying they are all better, yet you still fail to go in depth as to why. All I hear is "they are better and will be better"

Yeah ok kid.

Gallo cant reach his ceiling playing SF? Thats insane, hes absolutely perfect playing SF, its what will make him a matchup nightmare most nights. 6'11" with great outside shooting, he can shoot over most SF's. Then you put him in pick and roll situations with Amare and that just going to be killer. Look at those plays where he ran pick and rolls with David Lee, hes a playmaker who makes everybody around him better. You want your PF hanging around the basket, not around the 3 point territory. Gallo is no Dirk, and in fact I dont want him to be Dirk. I want him to be Danilo Gallinari. He might never be the prolific scorer that Dirk is, but he doesnt need to be. Hes faster than Dirk, hes better in the open floor than Dirk, he doesnt really have a back to the basket game or a mid range game like Dirk, hes a better perimeter defender than Dirk and a better help defender than Dirk.

Agreed, plus the kid is cold blooded in clutch situations. Whether it be shooting a 3 in Dwight Howards face or saving the game with a block on Acie Law, when its money time, this kid steps up and steps up big.

As a diehard fan, I've watched mostly every game for the last 2 throwaway seasons but I watched them to see Gallo play. I remember being at the Garden multiple times when Gallo came back from injury his rookie year and the Garden was electric. He just has that swagger that New Yorkers love. He is by far my favorite Knicks player right now and I'm so happy that he's homegrown. It's been a long long time since I had a homegrown player to be proud of (besides Lee but he's gone now).

remember when people like BnO were calling him a bust and a wasted pick and soft and someone who would have injury take him out of the league before he ever got in it?

true story

Again, hes a 15 and 5 sf who got pummeled 1 out of 2 seasons. You guys can say ceiling ceiling ceiling all you want all day, every day, and you probly will, but fact remains hes a 15 and 5 player with no other mentionable stats. UNTIL HE PROVES OTHERWISE.

I remember when Sweetney was gunna be Elden Brand when he was good, and Renaldo Balkman was supposed to be this crazy mix of Dennis Rodman and Ron Artest.
