KB2011 MOCK: 8th Pick Pistons Select Bismack Biyombo

Post#1 » by moocow007 » Thu Jun 2, 2011 4:54 am

The Pistons were derailed by infighting and mutiny for most of the season and are currently pretty much as mess. The announcement recently that the team sale has finally gone through hopefully will send this historic team heading in the right direction. With little talent beyond Greg Monroe and saddled with several large contracted veterans the Pistons are not in a easy spot. Assuming that they don't end up dealing the 8th overall pick who is the best fit/need?

Selected already

1. Kyrie Irving
2. Derrick Williams
3. Brandon Knight
4. Enes Kanter
5. Jonas Valanciunas
6. Jan Vesely
7. Kemba Walker

I think Bismack Biyombo is their guy. He's a bit risky in that he doesn't have a whole lot of refined basketball skills but he has the potential to be an elite rebounder, defender and shotblocker. The other option is they go with the best offensive player on the board (in terms of both out of the box production and upside) and take Burks instead. The Pistons were among the bottom 3rd of teams in terms of offense and new ownership coming in they may want to take someone that they feel can make this team flashy and exciting.

It won't be Motie..not after the Darko gaffe. Biyombo makes sense in terms of value but they have Monroe as the center of the future. I don't see them trying to develop two young big men at the same time; that applies to why they'll likely pass on Tristan as well. Burks has a little D-Wade in his game. Do you really think Dumars passes on that type talent twice to take a player that he has limited knowledge of...again? Biyombo (and Motie) is a rumor at this point. Burks is a more known commodity. Leonard doesn't have the (offensive) upside of Alec. The Morris boys don't even get a whiff yet. Alec makes the most sense here.

I went with Leonard here... it's time to start moving away from Prince. They still are committed to Stuckey and Gordan. So Leonard here.

I see them going with Burks...

Players that I can see them building around that they currently have are Stucky, Monroe, and Daye...everyone else on that roster should be, or are going to be scrapped...but Burks gives them a player who has the ability to turn into a star...they really don't have that on their current roster. Other than that there are a few other picks that make sense since they have a lot of holes but I like Burks here.

Pistons don't pass on the next Ben Wallace. Monroe can play PF and the two of them could form one scary front court. I could also see dark horse Tristan Thompson going here.

Detroit needs a player who can play right now. The team is in turmoil and they need a spark. Kemba Walker would be perfect but he's gone so I'll go with Kawhi Leonard.

I see the Pistons doing that trade with Cleveland so they can rid themselves of Rip Hamilton and his contract. Rodney Stuckey is a FA but I doubt there will be a big market for him.

Josh Selby will be drafted by Detroit. Remember Jason Thompson's meteoric rise from the 2nd round to the lottery based purely on potential? Well Selby is experiencing the same thing. Throw in the fact that Stuckey is a free agent that they dont want to resign to big money. Selby is the pick.
