Hypothetically -- would you trade Gallo for S. Curry?

Post#1 » by Johnny Hoops » Thu Apr 15, 2010 2:46 pm

I realize both players are considered nearly untouchable by their respective organizations but it would be an intriguing trade.

For the Knicks -- Curry could be a piece that attracts Lebron and we now know the kid is a legit big time "all-around" player.

For the Warriors -- you'd be trading a smaller player for a big that would still fit in Nelson's system. Plus you already have Monta Ellis if Curry goes.

I love Gallo but we sure as hell need a leader with the ball in his hands and Curry is one kid I'd consider trading Gallo for.

I could be convinced to root for the following starting line-up.....

Curry
Douglas
Lebron
Chandler
Amare

I personally still wouldn't. 7 footer that can hit close to 40% from 3, drive to the basket, post and play with the mentality that Gallo displays are very rare. I think Curry will be a very very good player but Gallo could be something special. Now if say two max FA wings players like Lebron and Johnson sign with us then I'd consider such a trade but I have serious high hopes for Gallo and would like to just keep him and see how he pans out....

I agree with you on Gallo and have the same hopes and expectations regarding his future.

Still the thought of Curry -- playing in our system with a couple of stars around him is pretty special as well.

I think both players will be BIG TIME clutch players throughout their careers.

Raptor fan here. I Dont know if i'd do it either. But clearly there are arguments for both sides. You say Curry is goign to be "very Very good player" But Gallo could be something special? What is gallos ceiling/worst case scenario? Cause I see him alot like Andrea Barg. He has the same inconsistencies. But then again I Dont watch NY games every other day.

Gallo has the mind and motor of a hard working veteran. He might be arguably better than when guys like Dirk, Peja, and Turkoglu were his age. I wouldn't trade him for Curry.

I'd trade Chandler for Curry in a heartbeat though.

I would only do it if we replaced D Lee with a legit scorer and rebounder/Defender in the middle someone like Bosh/Amare, other than that trade probably wouldn't make us better. They both have huge upsides but Gallo is 6'11 and thats something you have to consider, but Stephen is the better player RIGHT NOW, lets see what Gallo comes back with next year when teams will focus in on him defensively and MD shoudn't regulate Gallo to just shooting three's on the perimeter, he needs to let Gallo grow and make mistakes and thats what i do not like about MD system for this team, everyone thinks they are scorers when we probably only have 2 legeit scorers and thats Gallo and AH

I don't know Bargnani too well but I believe Gallo has a better work ethic and is the mentally much tougher player. On the other hand Bargnani seems more athletic but I think Gallo might pan out a little better.

Gallo's worst case is a 18/6/3 type of player I believe---like turkoglu in his good days.

Bargnani got 10points/4rebounds in his second season after playing almost 70 games (25min per) in his rookie season. Gallo played only 25-30 games with a painful screwed up back in his first season(at times he had trouble putting his trousers on) so I think Knick fans aren't exaggerating when saying this is essentially Gallo's rookie season. Nowitzki averaged 17points/7rebounds in his second year, Peja got 12points/4rebounds,Granger got 14/5rebounds---so as you can see Gallo's 15points/5rebounds are really solid .

Also more important---Gallo was recovering from back surgery in the offseason and had just very very little time to improve his game---a healthy summer full of workouts should improve him a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets 19points/6rebounds next season....

Never do big for small.

You can probably apply that logic outside of basketball.

I'd say Gallo is already the same level as prime Turkoglu. Next he has to become more consistent to reach prime Peja.

I'm a Raptors fan and i like Gallinari's game as I've seen a handful of knicks game this year. He's got a nice touch but c'mon, Steph Curry is already a significantly better player in my (trying to be as objective as possible) opinion. And to say "any scrub can be good on GS" is a moot point because the Knicks aren't much of a team either.

Again Gallinari is a solid player with a bright future but Steph Curry will at worst be an amazing second option on any team. You can only hope Gallinari can be that. Yea so just in my opinion I think this is a landslide trade in favour of Curry

i wouldn't say significantly. curry's what? at worst the second option on that team? it was only about 2 or 3 weeks left in the season when gallo became the second option and he's played pretty well (albeit starting games slow) as well.
