2011 NBA Draft Discussion Thread (Lottery Tonight!)

Post#1 » by NBA Fan 1234 » Tue Apr 5, 2011 2:37 pm

***UPDATE (5/4/2011) - We'll Start Using this Thread to Discuss the 2011 NBA Draft. Please USE it if possible. -- MOO***

Also added a Poll. Sorry max 10 options so had to leave guys that really hasn't been discussed much or that would probably be a reach out along with guys that likely will be gone by the time the Knicks pick. -- MOO

K742 - Link to last thread.

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=1065038

With the original thread being over 100 pages, and with the college basketball season over, I thought it was time to make a new thread where we can discuss the draft in general.

To start things off - the Nike Hoops Summit released the measurements of the international players.
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/201 ... ments-3661

The two most interesting ones (IMO)-

Code: Select all

Bismack Biyombo
Weight: 243 lbs.
Height (w/o shoes): 6'7.75"
Height (w/ shoes): 6'9"
Wing Span: 7'7"
Body Fat: 4.8%
Standing Reach: 9'3"

Code: Select all

Lucas Nogueira
Weight: 218 lbs.
Height (w/o shoes): 6'10"
Height (w/ shoes): 6'11.5"
Wing Span: 7'5.5"
Body Fat: 7.8%
Standing Reach: 9'3"

Biyombo, although undersized at 6'9 in sneakers, is 243 and with only 4.8% body fat; dude is a beast. His standing reach is also HUGE.

Nogueira is almost 7' in sneakers BUT he's 218 pounds with the same standing reach as Biyombo. To put that in perspective, Anthony Randolph measured in at 6'9 without sneakers (1 inch smaller than Lucas) and only 197 lbs. People thought that AR was mad skinny...

I don't know much about Biyombo, or Lucas (except that he apparently has a poor attitude/work ethic), but just going from the stuff I've seen/read, I'd much rather have Biyombo (if we are able to get another first round pick to secure him).

Here are the early entrants as of 4/5 (I'll update this when more become official or someone else will in the thread)

He really is. He also plays with aggression and anger...straight up animal. Also, he doesn't wait for rebounds to go to him - he goes after them .

nbadraft (not that I think it's a good site) has him going late second to undrafted. I call BS...Kevin Seraphin (similar measurements/type of player - another player that I wanted us to look into) went late first in last year's draft.

We also need rebounding, defense, and toughness...things that Biyombo would give us. He's only 18 so it's very possible he grows another inch or two.

What about Josh Selby as a possible draft pick... All signs point to him leaving, he will be available at our pick, and I'm guessing with another year at KU he would definately be a lottery pick in 2012. Kid has all the talent in the world, and could be a steal for us because after a few lights out performances for KU(once he got of suspension), he basically fell off the map scoring no more than 7 points in a game the rest of the season...Gotta love this kids toughness and upside though...

I know some are gonna say he's similar to Douglas, good defensively but questionable pg skills, but remember he was a pg coming out of high school(rated number 1 in that area) and because of suspension, injuries etc wasn't given that oppurtunity at Kansas. I think he might be good value at our pick considering his upside although he probably doesn't fill a need unless he really progresses and becomes something special. I feel like some GM's will fall in love with this kid, and we could get a very solid player in a trade for this guy even if we decide to go that route..

Just some random thoughts

Biyombo is going to this draft that means, him and his coach were playing chicken with each other. Biyombo does remind me of Ibaka before the coaching got to him. More reading on him...

Saw Selby declared for this draft, nice for us and complete mistake for him. As the days go on I really do hope that we buy another first round pick, potential to come away with two players ready to make an impact right away is sweet. On top of that this draft is filled with D'Antoni big men as well.

He doesn't fill an exact need but he is talented. He was a young guy on a team that was trying to win it all, I did think he would have much more of an impact this year. He does indeed play like Willie Warren and just like Warren he is making a mistake of when to declare for the draft. If he returns next year he can be a lotto pick next year.

At the end of the day you gotta pass because of more pressing needs.

Wow Biyombo has a 7'7 wingspan and 9'3 standing reach? Holy sh*t. I would def chance this cat. He already has an NBA body, like Ibaka did, so he really could start contributing sooner than we think. Dude has a 7+ footer's measurements so he could def play some center, a la Ben Wallace, here. Not to mention he has the coolest name ever. So many possibilities with that sh*t.

I already made a thread about Lucas. I think he will be a great pick too. As you said Randolph was only 197 pounds as a 19 year old rookie and he was going off at the end of the season, so why cant Lucas? He also has really awesome hair.

Give me either of these guys if they declare. I think they will be well worth the risk and would have the highest ceilings of anyone we pick, let alone fill huge needs. These are the types of guys we need to be going after. The Ibaka, DeAndre's, Dalembert late 1st round picks. I just hope they dont kill it TOO much at the Hoops summit :D.

I brought up AR because they have similar frames. If AR could only, allegedly, put on 25 lbs, I wouldn't expect Lucas to put on any more (if that). Lucas also reportedly has a poor attitude/work ethic...if that is true, I don't want him anywhere near the team.

Biyombo is the clear cut choice between the two and, right now, is one of the top players that I would aim for (if I were DW).

As many of you I'm sure know, the Nike Hoop Summit was today.

@DraftExpress
Jonathan Givony
If they were keeping track of deflections, Bismack Biyombo would have about a million so far. That's where the 7-7 wingspan comes in handy.

No its on Saturday my good friend.

Also:
DraftExpress: Bismack Biyombo will declare for the draft, agent Igor Crespo tells DraftExpress. Good chance he stays in if he's top-20.

Time for DW to give a promise saying we will pick him with our pick. He's exactly what we need (along with a point guard...)

Dont get your hopes up though gentlemen. We never ever get the guy we want. If this fella is the truth then he will def be gone before we pick IMO. Too much size, strength, athleticism, youth, and upside in this weak draft to not be. Not to mention he is supposedly a very hard working kid with a great attitude. Whats not to like?
