KB2011 MOCK: 1st Pick Cavs Selects Kyrie Irving

Post#1 » by moocow007 » Thu May 26, 2011 2:38 pm

Ok...let's get this started. I'll kick it off.

After being left high on dry by LeQueen and the infamous "Decision" the Cleveland Cavaliers find themselves "surprisingly" with 2 of the top 4 picks in the 2011 Draft. Their first pick is the top pick. Who should they take? What should they do?

Derrick Williams...he is the most dynamic player in the draft. They have a PG locked up in B Diddy and Kyrie Irving doesn't jump out to me as a game changer. I think Williams at SF would look nice in cleveland. He would instantly become a contributor and most likely a starter in front of christian eyenga.

The Cavs need a whole bunch of things but the one thing that they need most is a franchise player. In this draft, the most likely franchise talent is Iriving. So I vote...

I know absolutely nothing about NCAA prospects which makes about as qualified to vote as 95% of this board. Cavs pick Derrick Williams.

They take Kyrie Irving. They need talent period and in today current NBA you start most conversations about good teams with point gaurds. Why not grab the best one in the draft and get a bigman 4th. In all honesty I wouldnt sleep on Williams being available at 4. Take Irving first, and take your pick between Kanter and Williams with the 4th pick.

I'd take Kyie Irving. He's the best player in the draft and it's a PG's league. I like Derrick Williams but I like JJ Hickson more.

I'd say Irving...I know they need a small forward, but this is a point guard's league. When team's have good point guards, they have a lot of success.

Williams is a hell of a player, but I don't see him as a full time small forward...and they already have Hickson at PF so they don't really need a combo forward. If they end up trading Hickson THEN I can see them picking Williams.

That would probably make the most logical sense rather then taking Irving 1 and who to take with 4. Since they have the luxary of have 2 picks in the top 4 lock up the best scorer in the draft and then get and groom a young PG behind baron davis at 4.

I really don't see a major gab between the talent level of Irving to Knight to Walker. But I see a major gap between talented forwards in this draft. You have Williams and .......:dontknow:

Scoring first point guards (which irving is) tend to get there teams W's in the regular season but not in the post season (use Chicago and OKC as a reference). Wing scorers are what you need to get you over the hump (use Miami and Dallas as a reference)

Someone suggested they shock everyone and take Kanter first, I wouldnt be shocked. They have Hickson at Pf, and like you said there are 3 good pg options at 4. If they go the reverse, I think Kanter is the #1 pick before Williams. They'd have a nice pg, pf and center to grow with. And next year there are a slew of nice sf they could chose from.

Ditto. I haven't even really watched the scouting reports on either guy because they have no chance at being Knicks. :P

But from what I've heard about Williams, he would be the person I pick.

That would also make sense. Williams or Kanter 1 and one of the PG at 4. It's basically how you rate the players. If they like Kanter you pick him if you like Willaims you take him and then JJ Hickson is a nice trade piece.

Irving is the pick because he's the consensus best guy coming out of this draft and he plays the new glamour position in the NBA: point guard. He can potentially change the franchise. Williams is the type of player that won't wow the casual fanbase. And he doesn't come off as a charismatic guy or the most easy to root for. Irving will be the pick. This is easy.

They probably will take Irving and at 4 draft best player available.

Kanter will be gone at 3 i think...If not, then they have to take him
