Tyson Chandler says Knicks need to share the ball more.

Post#1 » by AfroThunder » Mon May 13, 2013 3:22 pm

Not sure if I'm allowed to make topics, if not then feel free to lock it up.

The Knicks path to the Eastern Conference finals and beyond had some good defenses in its path — Kevin Garnett and the stout Celtics first, followed now by Indiana and the best defense the NBA had in the regular season.

What good defenses in the playoffs do is take away your first action, your preferred option on offense (that’s why Carmelo Anthony had three shots in the fourth quarter of Game 3). And really good defenses make your second option hard, too.

What we’ve learned about the Knicks these playoffs is when those options don’t work they often resort to Anthony or J.R. Smith in isolation. And good defenses will make that a difficult way to score.

The latest to lament the Knicks lack of ball movement is Tyson Chandler, who won a ring with the 2011 Mavericks that did move the ball well out of Dirk Nowitzki hands. Here is what Chandler said, via the New York Daily News.

“Honestly, we’re doing it to ourselves,” Chandler said on Sunday. “I watched the tape myself and there are open looks. We have to be willing passers. You have to sacrifice yourself sometimes for the betterment of the team and for the betterment of your teammates. So when you drive in the paint and you draw, you kick it. I think we need to do a better job of allowing the game to dictate who takes the shots and not the individuals….

“I’m not saying anyone is doing it maliciously,” Chandler said on Sunday. “I think it is more so you get into a situation where you want to take over the game or you want to make a big shot where you (should) stick to the game plan. A good team wins basketball games. Unless you’re a great, great, great, great individual … and we only have a few of those come through.”

I’m not even going to bring up how that’s what Bernard King got his twitter shut down for saying (oops, guess I did).

It’s also obviously true. Look back at the tapes from the Knicks 17-game winning streak and they shared the ball as well as any team in the league (the Heat and Spurs are the models there). But when they got to the playoffs and had some defenses punch them in the mouth, they reverted to bad habits.

Ones they need to fix by Game 4 or they are going to be in a lot of trouble this series.

Tyson should start by not having a lower Rbs per game avg than every.single.one of the Pacers starting 5 in this series so far.

In other new:. Tyson needs to do more than average 4 rebounds a game during the playoffs! Each member of the Pacers’ starting five is averaging AT LEAST 5.6 rebs/game per Tommy Beer

If only the Knicks played as well or as hard as they talk.

Even though you guys are right in that Tyson has been pathetic all post season long, I actually agree with what he said here.

Basically the whole team needs to man up, I know they could play a lot better than they have shown thus far. ._.

All we could do is pray that this fires up not only Tyson to rebound the damn ball once in a while, but the rest of the team as well, to actually play as a team and pass the ball.

Talk is cheap. Tyson has no reason to talk and complain about team ball when he is carrying his own weight.

He got sexually molested by Roy Hibbert in game 3. His only comments after game 3 should have been. "I sucked, I got outplayed, Hibbert tore me a knew one. I will be better in game 4"

that is what the knicks fans want to hear. Own up to your own poor play before talking sh*t on the team.

Melo says he will talk to Tyson about his comments on the offense. Didn't want to address it w/media. "We'll handle it internally."

I thought Tyson was the mature leader?? Seems he could take a page out of Melo's book here.

Everytime we lose, somebody indirectly blames Melo. "We have to move te ball more" is a veiled shot/cop out. Pull your own weight and then we can have that discussion Tin Man.

Tommy Beer ‏@TommyBeer 18m
Pacer PG George Hill has 5 more rebs than Chandler… SG Lance Stephenson had more boards (13) in Gm 1 than Tyson has this entire series (12).

This is what the paint looks like with Tyson in the game. Hibbert just sagging and all but ignoring Chandler. We're used to that though. What we're not used to is Tyson getting out rebounded and abused on the defensive end. As of now he's paid to set picks. He's bringing little else. We're playing 4 on 5 on both ends. Thanks Tyson.

Doesn't matter if he is right or wrong. This is NY. When you play like **** you better be taking the blame on yourself not calling out team mates to the media. That will not play well with the NY fans. We can see that he is trying to shift the blame off himself and onto his teammates. NY fans don't respond well to those types of actions.
