Different perspective on JR

Go back to this time last year...

The thunder were on a roll and were getting significant contributions from back-up shooting guard, and sixth-man of the year winner, James Harden. Only he blew it in the finals. What happened after? The thunder got 3 quarters for a dollar after trading harden to Houston for Kevin Martin (anyone still sold on him being a 2/3 option on a championship team? I'm not), Jeremy Lamb (who's he again), and a high draft pick in what scouts are already writing off as the worst talent pool in years. Meanwhile Harden is looking like one of the best young players in the league. I.e. dont trade sixth man of the year award winners, they may turn out to be the next best thing.

So maybe pump the breaks on JR. He had a lousy performance, so what? He had sex with Rihanna - good for him. In the mans world I live in, he gets points for that. Lets keep him around for one more season, and hope he has his love life figured out at that point. As the great lyricist Nas once said "its easy to get the pussy, just dont fall in love."

lol wtf. Also inapposite as (i) the scenario isn't about trading JR but to sign him with our exception or not; (ii) Harden was traded to prevent the Thunder from paying the tax in the future and also securing some assets and (iii) those against JR think he's a net negative irrespective of the cost. The fun part is we are re-signing him so the fuss is just academic.

Except James Harden was a legit 6th man of the year, and continued to play like one in playoffs.

JR Smith? He's lost his earlsanity in the playoffs. He blew himself off a few millions for his sh*tty performance in the past few weeks.
