Amare's health holds key to future

Post#1 » by aggo » Sun May 19, 2013 7:21 pm

no healthy amare = no shot at a championship.

We played enough defense to beat Indiana. I know guys are crazy about us doubling the post so much and w/e leading to threes, but the truth is that if you look at the point totals given up, we lost on the offensive end.

No one could score and we had no reliable scoring option outside of Melo.

Consider how the game completely changes when you have Amare available to play for 30mpg.

Although people like to say BS that Amare/Melo cant play together anymore, their TS% for both on/off court together is effectively identical this year, so throw that argument out of the window.

Consider if you take 10 possessions that IND has in the secondary transition and now we get to set up our defense 100% (check first Q game 6). Consider the fact that Amare would be good for a few rebounds a game (check the whole fuggin series).

This series was lost because we didnt have a reliable second scoring option. Not because of our defense. Not because of our size, not because of our inability to rebound or "defend" hibbert. IND was still an offensively inept team. They are a post up team and look at how many points Hibbert/West put up each game. Just look at those 2 totals and ask yourself, is that game breaking production?

A healthy Amare would be nice but cmon--who are we kidding...he will never be healthy enough to carry that load.

If that is the final equation, then pack your bags. Stat is a cripple. Reality sucks.

obviously i know amare will never be fully healthy to play 82games + playoffs ever again

but the point still remains. if amare is/was healthy, we'd win.

More or less. There are clearly a lot of medical professionals on this board that know a whole lot more about Amar'es health than I do. As an untrained observer, it's really tough for me to say whether the procedures this season will preserve his health going forward or whether he will continue to have the same kinds of problems next season.

Agreed. For better or worse, our chances lie within those creaky knees. I'd give him about a 38% chance of playing a full season. Not great odds, but this is what we have. No need to get depressed about it.

unless god comes down and gives him two spanking new knees during the summer then i would be all over in starting amare and playing melo at his natural SF position. And that way having a real froncourt lineup. But that aint happening, hes knees are done. I never believed in that melo/amare combo not working in the court. thats bs. the twenty something game stretch he had amare was producing before being sidelined again.

Amar'e Stoudemire knows his contract will not allow him to leave the New York Knicks, and he plans to meet with Mike Woodson to explain how he, Carmelo Anthony and Tyson Chandler can coexist.

“We never gave it a chance,” Stoudemire said after Indiana’s 106-99 victory eliminated the Knicks from the postseason. “So I think just the opportunity of allowing them to understand exactly what my style of play is and what I bring to the table is something that I think I’m going to have to sit down with Coach Woody and express to him."

Stoudemire has two years remaining on his uninsured contract and is nearly impossible to trade. He played just six minutes on Saturday.

“It’s tough, it’s tough,” Stoudemire said. “It’s never easy to sit there and watch. But again, it’s Coach’s decision."Via Frank Isola, Peter Botte/New York Daily News

What in the world does he expect when he returns off a knee injury on a minutes limit in the second round of the playoffs and doesn't even play that well when he gets a few minutes here and there...

Maybe it goes back to last year... maybe it goes back to before the injury.. maybe it has something to do with what happens behind closed doors.. I don't know. But to see Stat sitting on the bench like a hurt puppy was a little embarrassing and depressing at the same time. Also.. regarding the knees.. maybe babying the knees isn't the thing to do.. just run the guy until his knee caps fall off... but I don't think it's the knees or some sort of injury prevention for the reason Woodson treads lightly with Stat.. I don't think he cares for stat as a player. Also a lot of life is mental... if you got MD's telling him his knees are fragile and the front office is trying to preserve his knees and are cautious and then he doesn't believe in his own body it's going to fail him more frequently then the opposite.

Woodson exceeded his minutes limit in the regular season and, according to him, it resulted in him requiring the second debridement and him being out for another month and a half. Unclear to me how him believing he's healthier than he is is going to help.

With all due respect, he's a ppor defender and poor rebounder which is not good for playoff basketball even if he is semi-healthy.

I thought the he had the debridement to one knee... came back under a minutes restriction and then had the debridement on the other knee? From the chain of events what I suspected is they were putting off the debridement to the other knee because there was less pain in that knee than the other for as long as possible and thought the minutes restriction would help. I think with the off season.. the back injury behind him.. and both knees cleaned of debris he should be about as good as it's going to get from here on out.

It's not just a healthy STAT but his salary $$$ that prevents the Knicks from being able to add any vital talent.
