What's your starting line up?

Post#1 » by Dr. Detfink » Wed Sep 9, 2015 12:55 am

Near as I can tell, the New York Knicks have added a lot of parts that can be interchangeable. I'm not sure if that is too much of a good thing. Coach Derek Fisher hasn't demonstrated to be THAT much of a strategist but then again, last season was a wash out.

I'd say the only safe bet is Robin "Givens" Lopez at Center.

Who do you put at power forward? Melo? Derrick Williams? Porkzy? Or the "next break out star" Kyle O' "Mighty" Quinn?

Who's at the point? 2015 Vegas league MVP Langston Galloway or every one's favorite Jose Cauldron?

Your starting line up and why?

I want KP in the starting lineup!!

Grant
Afflalo
Melo
KP
Rolo

I want Grant instead of Calderon because Fisher seemed to place an emphasis on pushing the pace and attacking the basket in SL, and Calderon does none of those things. Plus, I can't stand Calderon's "defense" and hesitancy to shoot sometimes. I honestly have no love at all for Calderon.

I want Afflalo because he's a smart, veteran player who should be able to pick up the system quickly and become a calming presence out on the floor. He can also provide a little bit of scoring.

Melo and Lopez in the starting lineup is obvious...nothing needs to be said about that.

I want KP in the starting lineup because he can run the floor in transition, provides some much needed length and shooting, and can do work in the PnR. I do think that KP will have a problem with fouls kind of like how Yao did for the first few years of his career, and I think that he'll have a problem with securing rebounds in traffic. I still want him starting though. At his height, I think that he'll be a mismatch for most PF's out there. I also liked his ability to draw fouls in SL. I think that KP and Melo will have a really nice 2 man game out on the court.

Overall, I'm not really feeling any starting lineup that doesn't have KP in it, but that's just me.

LOL Porzingis at SF!!!

Jose/Afflalo/Melo/KOQ/RoLo
Grant/Galloway/D Will/Porzingis/Seraphin
Sasha/Early/Lou/Lance/Thanasis

Grant and Porzingis have to work their way into the starting 5. The rest of the team fights for minutes behind the 2nd unit.

Galloway/Grant/Afflalo/Melo/Rolo

We would need DWill and Porzee to provide some scoring off the bench but that's the best 2 way line up I can think of. Embrace small ball guys this team is made for it.

Days left until training camp!!!!!!

Calderon
Afflalo
Melo
O'Quinn
Rolo
6. D.will
I feel Calderon is still a good point guard and is also a team leader, he wins the nod until Grant or Galo out play him consistently. Quinn gets the nod for now, but I can see Prez creeping quickly on him. I'll give him a month.

Fast line up

Afflalo

Calderon/Afflalo/Melo/KOQ/Rolo.

Grant/Galloway/Early/Williams/Zing OR Williams/Zing/Seraphin.
BigLou, LT, Vucacic, Thanasis spot minutes.

I could see going small with Calderon/Grant/Afflalo/Melo/Rolo as well. Definitely would be a look for sure.

Calderon, RoLo, Melo and Afflalo have to start no matter what IMO, those 4 are our best bet and proven players.

Calderon
Affalo
Carmelo
KP
Lopez

This squad makes to much sense and they seem to compliment each other very well on paper.. this lineup gives you a mixed bag of defense and scoring, KP is a good help defender as well.

The size of KP/Lopez in the paint is intriguing alone, and lets face it their arent any teams in the East that can attempt to bully porzingis in the post and with his size, length and athleticism it wont be easy scoring over him either. We are in the East not the West its not like were going to see matchups against the likes of Duncan/Aldridge, Blake/Deandre, Gasol/Z-bo and so on.

And if teams want to go small we can simply put melo at the 4.

Calderon/Grant
AA/Gallo
Me7o/Sasha/Early/Thanasis
Kri6/Dwill/LT
Rolo/O'Quinn/Seraphin/Lou

This should be our lineup when everyone is healthy. A lot of people have dismissed Jose but us having a great season is as dependent on his health as it is Melo's, Rolo, or AA. Calderon has to start and bring stability to our offense, something I don't think Grant is ready for.

As far as our 2nd unit I don't think it's as set as posted. From Sl it looks as if Gallo has regressed a bit so we could potentially see Sasha as our backup SG with Early getting minutes as backup SF. Whatever the turnout it'll be exciting to see our youngins develop coming off the bench.

I personally think Grant is ready to go and make an impact. His ability to get into the paint and make plays, while being able to create his own shot and knock down open 3's should have him starting. I know he hasn't done this against NBA competition, but I just have a gut feeling he performs really well right away. Plus, if Calderon is this veteran presence we all speak of him, then he should be fine coming off the bench. I would start..

Grant
Afflalo
Anthony
Porzingis
Lopez

2 rookies starting, but playing with 3 established veterans and one of the best scorer in the world.

Lopez, Anthony, Afflalo and Calderon I think are givens. Really a question of who at the other spot which as I've said is likely a PF (they've got 6-7 PF types on the team and the starting 4 don't really fit an uptempo offense). Logic would seem to indicate that it will be Porzingis, Derrick Williams or Kyle O'Quinn. Can argue for and against all 3 guys. I'll take a gamble and say that the early favorite is O'Quinn to start the season. But honestly, I think the Knicks have not yet made that decision and will let training camp and preseason determine who starts.

Calderon
Afflalo
Melo
O'Quinn
Lopez

Second Unit:
Grant
Galloway
Porzingis
Williams
Seraphin

The great part will be to watch the scrimmages between these two units. They will be really, really tough and I'm not even sure that the starting unit would win. This can only be good for our future!

Jose
Aaron
Carmelo
Kyle
Robin

This lineup has a good balance of scoring and defense. Melo and Aaron can get theirs while Calderon, Rolo, and Kyle can all hit open shots.

2nd unit

Grant
Galloway
Dwill
Porz
Seraphin

Lots of fast pace Pick and roll offense I can see here. I like this second unit. Porz and D Will can be featured. The guards in this lineup are aggressive as well.
