Random Knicks Related Stats, Tidbits, and Factoids

Post#1 » by SelbyCobra » Sat Nov 7, 2015 5:04 am

I started one of these last year because I sometimes come across little bits of info that are worth sharing but don't really belong in an existing thread.

To start it off, a cross post from tonight's PG thread:

looking at the boxscore after this one, and Porzingis had 9 (NINE!) offensive rebounds.

Checking Basketball Reference, he appears to be the 7th youngest player in the last 30 years or so since they've been tracking OReb to do this in a game behind:

  • Dwight
  • Favors
  • Drummond
  • Carmelo
  • Amar'e
  • Chandler

Porzingis has 23 offensive rebounds in his first 6 career games. Offensive rebounds have been kept as a stat since the 85-86 season. Here are the players in those last 30 years that have had at least 23 offensive boards in their first 6 games:

  • Shaquille O'Neal (35)
  • Chris Webber (31)
  • Dwight Howard (25)
  • Elton Brand (24)
  • Derrick Favors (23)
  • Kristaps Porzingis (23)

Jerian Grant had 8 assists tonight in his 7th career game.

He's the first Knick rookie to do this (8 assist game within the first 7 games of his career) since Mark Jackson in November of 1987. He's the only Knick rookie to do it off the bench.

Additionally, he got his 8 dimes in this 7th game in just 18 minutes off the bench, making him one of seven rookies in the last 30 years to do so (8 assists off the bench in 18 minutes or less within the first seven games of his career).

(I warned you in the thread title the stats would be random :lol: )

Cool things I noticed...everyone above him was more physically mature/developed than Zinger as a rookie...this bodes well

Random stats - that's that chit I DO like!

Can you imagine KP's numbers if he played 48 mpg (26/16/5/3/3) :o
PG - Jerian Grant/Galloway
SG - Arron Afflalo/Vujacic
SF - Carmelo Anthony/Williams
PF - Kristaps Porzingis/O'Quinn
C - Robin Lopez/Admundson

Projected record: 42-40 :cheesygrin:

Unfortunately, he would never make it past 36 minutes because right now his personal fouls per 36 are 6.2. Despite fouling too much he is doing a great job despite his shooting not being there right now. If he starts making his open shots he'd probably win rookie of the year or make the all-star game.

20 year olds (or younger) in NBA history to at least match Porzingis' 29 pts, 11 reb, and 2 threes in a game:

* Antoine Walker
* Lamar Odom
* Lebron James
* Kevin Durant
* Tobias Harris
* Bradley Beal

20 year olds (or younger) in NBA history to at least match Porzingis' 29 pts, 11 reb, and 2 threes in the 31 minutes (or less) that Porzingis did it in:

The LEAST amount of time any of those guys above did it in was Beal's 39 minutes. Everyone else's games were anywhere from 43 to 55 minutes played.

The Thunder tonight shot 3-29 from downtown, which ties the NBA record for 3P futility (10.3%) with at least 29 attempts.

In 2008 Golden State had a game where they shot the same 3-29 from downtown. Nobody has ever shot a worse percentage on at least 29 attempts in league history.

Tonight Porzingis became the second player in NBA history to have at least 24 pts, 14 reb, 7 blk, and 2 3pm.

Josh Smith did it 8 years ago in 44 minutes. It took KP just 36. (Coincidentally, Smith produced an identical 24/14/7 and 2 three line).

For just the 3rd time in 280 career games with the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony played at least 25 minutes, took 10 shots or less, and the Knicks won.

Langston Galloway currently has the highest offensive rating in the NBA (points produced per 100 possessions).

No Knicks in the top 25 minutes played per game (DET has 3 of the top 10, TOR has 3 of the top 15).

Melo's 34.1 MPG is the highest on the team, and puts him at 32nd in the league.

The next closest Knick is Galloway's 26.3 MPG, which slots him at 121st overall. Porzingis' 26.1 is third on the team and 124th in the league.

Once Afflalo gets his games played up to qualify, his current 30.7 MPG would place him around 75th in the league.

Most double doubles in Knicks history through the first 15 games of a player's career:

  1. Porzingis (7)
  2. Ewing (6)
  3. Jackson (4)
