How do you guys not know this.

It means if a team is too good they should be "broken up" since it's unfair for the rest of the league. Obviously hyperbole though in this case

The origin of the saying comes from the NY Yankees of the 1920s, other teams argued that the Yanks should've been broken up and the players split among the other teams.

It is a well known phrase. It kinda like an idiom like "it's raining cats and dogs".
