“I think our pace has slowed down a lot,’’ said Grant, 23, the Notre Dame product who hasn’t posted a field goal or assist in three straight games. “We’re not getting on the break as we were. I’m out there with some different guys, just trying to get back into a rhythm. The most important thing is pushing the pace.
“Early on, we did a lot more drags, rebound and run. I think it was more comfortable doing that.’’
“I didn’t actually [see it coming],’’ Williams said of the benching. “Sometimes you got to sacrifice for the team. But I want to get out there and play. That’s the reason I’m here. I don’t really know what happened [Wednesday].’’
One solution is for Fisher to unearth speedy second-year man Cleanthony Early and deactivate struggling shooting guard Sasha Vujacic or limited center Lou Amundson.
Fisher has yet to address the problem with Williams.
“It’s going down and down,’’ Williams said of his minutes. “We were on a little win streak. You don’t want to complain when you’re winning, man. It makes you look like a bad individual. I’ve always been a team guy. I’m happy we were winning .
“[Wednesday] I don’t play. I think I know I can help. It does get frustrating.’
Yeah man, I feel that’s the reason I’m here, bring that spark off the bench,’’ Williams said. “You can’t control that. It’s up to the coaching staff. At the same time, it does get frustrating. I know I can help. But we have more games.’’
While the starting five is thriving since Arron Afflalo’s return, the Knicks bench is in chaos. Fisher is in a scramble to either pare a 12-to-13-man rotation or change it after two straight Florida losses in which the bench combined to shoot 7 of 47.
