Whoa. It's everywhere now. Totally shocking. He was so young and, from everything I know, in very good health generally.

Very sad. He was an incredible talent and personality.

It sounds like he got sick. Every account I've heard of him recently (like - past 25 or so years) had him stone cold sober.

Apparently this is true. Never a massive fan, but of course liked a LOT of his vast catalog. Now, if anyone is unawares,or is on the fence about Prince, go find some of concert bootlegs, especially the "after show" shows. He played at these what he truly loved (at the after shows) and there is mind boggingly awesome stuff - doing Led Zeppelin sets, Funkadelic stuff, jazz stuff, just all over the map and all incredible. I'll see if any are up on youtube, last time I tried to find an aftershow up there, was hard.
