Atlantic Division Offseason Review

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Tue Aug 23, 2016 1:47 am

Hi guys!

Atlantic Division Offseason Review is up for RealGM.

http://basketball.realgm.com/analysis/243170/2016-NBA-Offseason-Review-Atlantic-Division

Grades for 2016-17 and long term are included for each team, as well as some offseason analysis. Trying a new format this year: instead of a full deep dive on each of the 30 teams, we're covering a division at a time.

Have at it you filthy animals! :)

Fair assessment of the knicks, we took a win now approach. I think the long term grade for the knicks is a little harsh tho considering kuzminskas and hernangomez both played so good in the olympics against good competition. Maybe this was written before rio.

Having DRose play well this year is in no way a negative. We don't have to do anything. We just reap the rewards and have 40 mil in cap space this summer. We can decide to move forward or stand pat.

Agreed that the Noah deal for the years wasn't good in any shape or form. Disagree on the Lee deal. At 12.5 he's good value.

It's obvious that everyone is not measured on the same scale. Other than coming away with Durant, no one would give us an A. If we had signed Horford to a max deal, the media would kill us. It's become abundantly clear that the only way anyone will give this team a good grade is if either we make a franchise altering move like signing or trading for a megastar, or straight tearing it down. Other teams can have incremental improvements and they'll be celebrated. Not the case for us.

The long-term grade is off to me. We didn't give up any picks and really only Noah is on a questionable deal due to his health.

Never would have guessed this was written by a Celtics fan.

Liked the contribution he made during Summer League, but this "assessment" of our team is just...I don't even have the words. It's somewhere in between awful and satanic.

If there was an argument against free speech, this article would help support it.

The equivalence of Net offseason 3 years ago to Knicks this season is awful...they gave up 2 first round picks and swaps for 35 year old players ...we got 2 31 year olds and maintained our draft picks...and I think we realized grant is not a starter in this league prob a decent backup...

Yea, his grades for the Celtics is totally unbias. lol.

Most Celtic fans probably would trade any of their players and picks for Porzingis, but our future is doom and gloom.

I thought this was basically a hatchet job. If he said our short term prospects weren't good because of health issues, i could have believed it. But we're in great shape for the long term. We got a D+??? Long term, we are in fine shape. I only worry if everybody meshes and stays healthy in the short run. Jeez, he's got it backwards, or maybe totally wrong.

Whack review. Typical pessimism when it comes to the Knicks. Whatever, prove em wrong that's all I care about. Savages.

If we think our future is shyt, we'll gladly trade KP to them along with all our picks for a few washed up geriatric players.

Nets actually had a halfway decent offseason. I would have rated both a little higher for short term. Marks had a rough hand dealt to him and he seems to be riding it out, while focusing on culture. This is the correct tack and it's a bold departure for them. The team will be pretty bad but it's got a core of guys that will compete every night.

The only criticism I have is that they should be mining the international game harder than any other team in the league but perhaps they did and nobody worthwhile wants to come to them right now. This might seem like an opportunistic criticism based on where my Knicks analysis is headed but I've been harping on it on the GB all season. It's really their only recourse for acquiring relatively young, cheaper talent and if they weren't actively pursuing it they missed an opportunity.

In contrast... Smitty. Brosef, that long term writeup on the Knicks is rough. Others made a lot of the points on the limited resources given for the short term gains already so I'll leave it with this: Knicks being in a similar position to the Nets this summer (no pick) did scour the international market and get no credit whatsoever for it?! Kuzminskas and Hernangomez are making about 5 mil combined/season and both had Olympic exposure. Of those, they put up some very impressive games along with some average to clunkers. You had plenty of opportunity to watch two players that appear to be rotation level players but their additions get nothing in the writeup. Don't follow the hype train and look at the summer holistically beyond the name acquisitions, which includes the prospect (Holiday) and pick the Knicks received back in the Rose trade.

All in all, as the biggest long term commitment and biggest question mark, Noah (not Rose!) is the main determinant of this past offseason. He is a risk. If he regains some of his form from even 14-15, it's a nice offseason. If not, maybe a lower long term grade is warranted. But not that low. At worst, Noah's a bit less than a wash with Lopez.

What a homer ass hack job, the grade for our outlook was reason alone to trash this review. GTFO
