2023-24 NY Knicks trade ideas

Post#1 » by bballoctober » Thu Oct 12, 2023 12:50 am

I was looking for the trade thread and I couldn’t find it so I created one.

Marcus Morris for Evan Fournier straight up.
I will only cherish the wins and ignore everything else, because that's the only way to survive as a Knicks fan.

Its a good trade.

A problem with trading Evan is the aggregation restriction that could prevent us from trading him for a star during a couple of months.

If we get Morris or any other player, we can not retrade him aggregating salaries to a third team for 60 days. If Embiid or another star demands a trade in this timeframe, it could be hard to find enough fillers.

Evan Fournier for a lunchable box. I’ll even take the one without Capri Sun

Donovan Mitchell, Embiid or Giannis sound like nice ideas

Brunson needs help. The team needs a superstar to get over the hump. They have depth to work with. Trade ideas that aren't focused on acquiring a superstar are tricky. What assets/contracts are we using? Do they limit anything we can do moving forward?

We aren't getting any value for Evan. He's an expiring contract needed for a big trade that may not materialize and teams know he's gotta go. We also have Thibs short rotations to contend with. We all know he won't play just anyone. What are we really gonna get for him?

Nothing on the market made sense in that regard all summer. That hasn't changed. I don't think adding DVC was really a smart move but, they must be positioning for the future there somehow. We surely didn't need another guard in the rotation. I like him as a bench player and he has chemistry with his boys but, it didn't make much sense though unless they have a reason. I assume it's IQ related but, who knows?

I don't really see any trades that make sense realistically. Maybe we hop in on a Harden trade for something but, there's not much out there going on. They need to balance the roster sooner or later.

What extra would you add in a Fournier for Bojan swap?

Fournier's scooter

Interesting ask, as swapping the two would mean exchanging non playing Fournier for a guy who can absolutely contribute and help at backup 4. It would probably take a 1st round pick.

It would also mean the entire benching of the one of the following:

Sims(who cares), Nathan Knight (assuming he makes roster over Roby, again, who cares), and any one of the following: Grimes/IQ/Donte D/Hart/RJ

Because it's the end of Hart or RJ getting minutes at the backup 4.

Which likely means IQ or Donte out of the rotation, as RJ and Grimes are going to start and Hart will backup the 3.

Wouldn't including RJ solve the problem? 8-)

I tried to give them Jericho Sims too at first but Pop said they'd be over the tax limit so they'll take Nathan Knight instead

Why would you trade the 2nd best player by far, in your deepest playoff run in a decade, who's 23 years old, b/c you're trading for a backup pf?

Taking a step backwards, when the Knicks are trying to take the next step forward toward contention, over a bench role, doesn't strike me as prudent stewardship.

Thibs would have never thought to play Bojan at PF. It kinda goes against his entire ideology.

Bojan would be an upgrade but not worth trading picks for. Might as well just play Fournier and get 75% of what Bojan gets you anyway

PF: Sabonis | Lauri Markkanen
SF: Lebron | Lauri Markkanen
