I figured he was done, if this were like a Klay Thompson then maybe he could have come back, but his game is so physical that the shoulder was always going to be getting hit. I give him credit for trying, all blame to me falls on Thibodeau for the injury and the medical staff for not pushing him to get it sooner so he's ready for training camp. I haven't been the biggest Randle fan, but just losing him without anything to take his place is just not ideal. The season is done, go to the game thread and you'll see people acting like we're still in it  I may have to join you on Team Villain, the amount of people not just getting the hint is crazy.

while i do agree that the medical staff has been sus af, i think randle was trying everything possible to try and play before resorting to surgery and that's why they didn't do it sooner

per woj
He had done everything possible to avoid surgery and return for the playoffs. However, the procedure became an increasing inevitability after recent visits to two specialists who warned of further injury and possible permanent damage to the shoulder if he returned to play before a surgical procedure, sources said.

bright side it sounds like he will be able to be ready for training camp. i think lol
Randle's surgery is expected to allow for a full recovery and return around the start of the 2024-25 season, sources said. Undergoing the surgery soon gives him the recovery time necessary to target that timeline.

The Knicks said Randle would be reevaluated in September.

when it comes to thibs, i do see both sides of the arguments. heat still had their starters in, so that's why randle was still in the game, but thibs also should've known to take them out since the lead was big. so i get both sides. in my opinion, i don't think thibs was responsible for this since it was a freak accident but i get where you are coming from. prob should've just taken him out the game since the lead was big.

you joining team villain would be a superstar acquisition for us. we can swap out guan0 for you with no problems. :D

The Knicks have been one of the more healthy teams in the league for the last few years, Under Thibs and current medical staff up until this year. We just got hit with the injury bug this year unfortunately. Anyone looking for someone to scapegoat for that is being ridiculous.

I read that the usual thing to do for a shoulder dislocation that didn't involve ligament or nerve damage is to see if it can heal first via physical therapy and rest.

Pressure is on now for Bojan. If we plan on making it to the finals he's gotta step up 20 points a night.

NEW YORK — New York Knicks star Julius Randle, in an exclusive interview with Bleacher Report, revealed why he chose to have season-ending surgery after dislocating his right shoulder in late January.

Randle, 29, said he suffered a setback during the rehab process after initially opting not to undergo surgery to keep alive the hope of returning this season.

"I want everyone to know that I did everything in my power to get back this season," Randle told B/R in an interview over the phone. "That was my intention, to be playing right now. That's why I didn't opt for surgery when it happened. But what caused me to finally go through with getting surgery was about five weeks ago, I went through a full-contact session and re-injured my shoulder. My s--t wasn't stable. I felt like I was in the same state when I first dislocated it, and It's been an uphill battle ever since.

"Choosing to get surgery was my only option at this point. It's frustrating, but I'm at peace knowing I tried everything."

Randle said he expects to be full healthy for the start of the 2024-25 NBA season. After surgery, he'll be re-evaluated in five months, the team announced.
"I visited a couple of shoulder specialists. One said I 100 percent needed to get surgery. Another one said I'm at risk, but if I dislocated it again, I could damage it permanently," Randle said.

"I believe in this team and wanted to give it a try. It didn't work out, unfortunately. It's a tough pill to swallow, but it was my only option at this point. It wasn't getting right."

Had the three-time All-Star chosen to undergo the procedure when the injury occurred, he said that would have been tough to deal with. "I didn't want to go through 'what if I could play.' I wanted to know for sure if I could or not.

"I don't have any regrets about going through with this process. I had to give myself a chance to get back on the court for my team. I thought I could. That contact session derailed it."

The Knicks still are awaiting the fate of forward OG Anunoby, who will miss his ninth straight game Thursday due to right elbow inflammation. The team is being overly cautious with the hope he would be available for the playoffs without being in and out of the lineup, sources say.

Ideally, Anunoby and the Knicks would prefer a game or two under his belt before postseason play, but it's possible that might not be conceivable, sources say.

The seventh-year swingman is progressing and there still remains some inflammation, but he's tracking the right way, according to sources.

"Whoever is out there, I got confidence in this team," Randle told B/R. "I believe in them and I'll be rooting them on."

You're right. Let's blame Hart for passing the ball to Randle.

At least I'm having a spirited debate else where in this thread. This comment right here is just plain dumb.

Again, there was no malicious intent by Jaquez on the play, he stepped in to draw the charge. Pass the ball, and this injury is avoided.

He waited 5 weeks after the setback to get surgery or did the knicks sit on the surgery news that long?

Sucks he’ll miss another offseason due to injury, but positive sign that they think he’ll be back in the beginning of the season.

Funny enough, this injury may have helped shift the narrative on him and fans (and possibly other teams around the league) are seeing his value, that is unless this team still makes an improbable run in the playoffs

Sidenote, this could be the reason Thibs started to run a lot of plays for Bojan last game because his role obviously has to be ramped up with this team (good or bad)

I don’t know if that necessarily is matter of going too soon. His body could have been responding well to treatment and all parties agreed to ramp up things and start contact drills.

From the sounds of it, even if he started contact right before the playoffs he would have re-injured it.

Randle never had a good game in playoffs in his career, having a small ball lineup will help the team. Too bad the team lacks the talent to make any noise in playoffs

True, we don’t really know for sure…but it’s crazy how many guys have come back too soon and got reinjured. It can’t all be a coincidence. Too many players are getting rushed back.
