Deal the pick for progress

Post#1 » by falcindor » Tue Jun 10, 2008 3:11 am

No deal is going to make us championship calibur but we need a few steps in the right direction.

Zach Randoph + Quinten Richardson + Ronaldo Balkman + Mardy Collins + #6 pick

for

Elton Brand + Corey Maggette

----------------------------------------------------------------
Ronaldo could never play in a D'Antonio offense. Hes no threat scoring, best to move while he has trade value. We get 2 shorter contracts. Brand legit #1 player. Brand can be resigned for less money. If he can get to MVP status then he deserves the raise. Maggette is that borderline star who should be on the Tmac level but hasnt had the wide open style that D'Antoni has. This is a great financial move for Knicks regardless. If Brand doesnt produce where we want we wipe from books. If he brings it he can be the anchor.

Don't you understand that Odom is a God among men?

6th pick, Lee, Chandler, expiring, and a future first
FOR
Odom and bad contracts

MIGHT get it done.

Bad move.

The best thing NYK can do is wait for the best trades available, and that may happen as our contracts get shorter.

I know that nobody wants to add salary, but the free agent idea is a risky manuver. There's no guarantee this team has sufficient cap space in 2010 to get a Bron or Wade or Bosh (and only 1 of those 3 is good enough to save this team) - AND, if we do get under the cap, we'll be so depleated that we won't have the kind of team than Bron would want to join.

I'd keep the pick - no matter what

and I wouldn't try to improve next year, I'd try to get Lotto in 2009.

If we do make a trade next season, Trade Marbs & Malik and take on salary and get picks to go with it.

I know that's what nobody wants to hear, but that's the best move.
Embiid wanted to win so badly, he deliberately injured Mitchell Robinson.

Classy.

Clips wouldn't do it.

I'd be willing to trade back a few spots to unload a contract, because I think the talent between 6 and say 12 is pretty close together, but I don't want to trade the pick completely.

that would be a great trade. Brand is an awesome player, as is Maggette. I will miss Renaldo Balkman, though.

Not so fast

BOTH have Early Termination Options. Maggette is expected to exercise his but he hasnt done it yet. Brand probably will not exercise his. Both have until end of June & must refuse the Option in order to be traded this month.

(Jermaine O'Neal is only one I know of who has formally refused his option)
