What do you guys think of this wager w/ my friend?

Earlier this afternoon, my friend and I were having a discussion about how well we believed the USA basketball team would perform in the Olympics. He believed that they would dominate the competition and win every single game by at least 15 points. It definitely could happen and I wouldn't be surprised if it did, however, I felt that Spain, Greece, Argentina, or even Germany have a decent chance of either pulling a game out or not losing by more than 15. And thus, the formation of a wager...

If USA wins every Olympic basketball game by 15 or more, I will lose a very large sum of money, as I am giving him 7-2 odds.

If USA does not do so, I win a large sum of money.

Curious to know what you guys think.

Spain are beating teams by as much as the USA is in pre-olympic warm-ups. People on here don't really get that. So you are probably going to win that wager.

You got it. Lithuania got within 10 in the 3rd quarter. I don't think a Spain, Greece or Argentina will be down 20 or 30 in the first place. They're going to make a run and I think 15 is a safe bet, USA will win though.

At the time of the bet, I did not know that Lithuania had kept it close in the 3rd quarter. Upon making the discovery tonight in the NBA.com highlights, I felt even more confident about the wager.

Ultimately, I figure that there will be at least one team that will make USA sweat because:

1. There ARE talented teams in this tournament. Spain is loaded with NBA talent, and Argentina, while older, is always a factor (USA only beat them by 15 in the FIBA tournament a couple of years ago).

2. USA still struggles in the half-court, and I figure that the better teams will be more disciplined defensively, pack it in with the zone, and make it a war of who-can-hit-more-jumpers.

3. USA KNOWS that it's more individually talented, they KNOW they're better, and they are having way too much fun blowing teams out. No matter what the players say, I'm banking on the USA underrating their opponents and not responding well (or perhaps, well enough) when they will be inevitably be faced with a tough, physical, and closely contested situation. At least, not well enough that they'll be able to blow this team out by 15 or over.

You might lose the money (i should make a bet like that with someone who wants to lose money) but at least our US team is comming home with the gold. Spain and Argentina will give the US a competitve game all the way through each game.
