if Mobley retires, we'll be under the cap next year

we won't have to wait until 2010 to start signing FA's. Boozer, Okur, Marion, JO among others are available next year

We can use the extra spot to sign Ewing or Nichols to a small 1 year deal. And once Jeffries is back, our bench should be straight. Nate, TT, Jeffries, Ewing

Actually, Cat's guaranteed salary will remain our our books until the summer of '10. We can petition for cap relief sometime in the middle of next season, but it's almost moot, since his deal ends after next season anyway. We will get relief from paying his full salary though. Insurance (75%) will kick in after 41 games of Cat not playing, after we file for it.

isnt it crazy to think that both francis and mobley's career technically ended in New York.

Both of them can join eachother on the couch now.

The knicks won't be able to get any cap relief if Mobley retires due to a medical condition because the injury occurred while playing for another team. The Knicks wouldn't get any cap relief at all. This would be all about getting insurance to pick up a portion of the money still owed to Mobley.

Well Houston can shoot, and honestly, I don't believe his defense could possibly be any worse than Roberson or any other trash on our team.

I went from supporting this trade, to thinking this was a pathetic move. We originally traded for 2 players with short contracts that also fit our team better. Thomas is a good 3 point shooter and a versatile player. Mobley is a very good defender and a good shooter. Now we just traded Zach Randolph for Tim Thomas.

...but in the short-term we might save the franchise $4 million.... :D

Plus, we might get a player via trade or FA.

i don't see anyone in the nba that makes 4 mil a year that would be available that is better than mobley. This is bull from a fan's perspective.

I expect that any FA who is not already signed at this point would gladly sign for the league minimum. This is about saving Papa Jimmy some money while opening a roster slot. Which is fine with me!

I think you guys and Berman are both jumping the gun here. It isn't a definate that Mobley will retire as of yet. Alan Hahn reported today that nothing was imminent on Mobley.

http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/baske ... minen.html

Just because Berman says it, doesn't make it true.

If it does turn out to be true, I would only be upset about the trade depending on who the Knicks replace him with. The way I see it there may be some young player out there that might be worth taking a waiver on.

Pistol Pete died from the heart condition Mobley is getting tested for so this is serious.

I'm a bulls fan but came over to see what was up with mobley. but i guess I have the same heart condition he is getting tested for and saw the same doctor in minn. I'm suprised hes played this long to be honest. expecially because they knew he had some kind of condition.

wow i hope the best for you! it's tough to live with things like that.

i'm disabled for life. i have 6 screws and 2 metal plates in my neck and have an artificial disc in my lower spine. they want to do 2 more surgeries as well because other discs are herniate, but my lawyer wants me to try and wait so that the insurance companies don't take every dollar away from my law suit. i was at a red light and a pool truck drove into me. i didn't know i was that hurt.
i even drove myself to the hospital. then each hour became worse. the hospital did crap and i went to a spine specialist and took an mri and started shaking because i couldn't handle the position, i became cold and couldn't feel things and thats when i knew i was screwed.

not the same as what you're dealing with, but my prayers are with you and mobley.

it's real strange when something is wrong, and it's impossible to explain. i hope you get the best care and make it through!

Then we should have done the TPE and second rounder over the summer, instead. Torn it down then, and just let the kids play. As it stands, this team seems disheartened by the 2 deals we just did.

As for the roster spot, we need to sign a backup PG. Not a 'guard'. A point guard.

It said in today's times that the Clips asked for a first round pick.

What happened was that Zach looked impressive and the Clippers obviously missed having a big man like Brand, so the clippers dropped their request for a first round pick and Walsh did the trade.

Frankly, that just makes sense. NO GM, no matter how dumb, would take on Zach's contract without asking for compensation. What happened this year is Zach's stock went up and the Clippers got desperate, so they did the trade without asking for a pick.
Embiid wanted to win so badly, he deliberately injured Mitchell Robinson.

Classy.

if we get an injury exception for Mobley I would immediately try to use it on Mike James who isnt in the rotation at all in NO

He plays solid D, has won a ring and his contract expires after 09

He can shoot, handle and pass. he was a killer in Tor and has languished since

Hes the perfect option and Im sure NO would love to move him. they have some other guy playing point there

Return to New York Knicks
