From Alan Hahn's chat today (regarding Lee)

Post#1 » by ctorres » Mon Jan 26, 2009 9:20 pm

Alan Hahn wrote:Without a doubt David wants to stay a Knick. He's told me (and others) many times his desire to remain in New York. He loves it here and would love to be one of those rare players who stays with the team that drafted him for his entire career. But obviously he goes where the money is if the Knicks decline to match whatever offer sheets are given to him in the summer.

I think this is really telling. At this point, I think Lee is not expecting an extension. He is going to see what offer sheets he can get, sign one of them, and then hope that the Knicks match.

If Lee actually wants to be with this team for the rest of his career, after all the crap he's been through the llast 4 years, then he must truly know what it means to be a Knick. I think Lee is the type of guy that you'd like to have his jersey up in the rafters some day.

sign Lee this summer, draft Curry, sign Joe in 2010, let Curry and Jeffries expire and sign a big like Dalembert,Horford, or maybe even Pau...

Man, i really hope this works out. I dunno whats being thrown around as trade options, but it better be good. If we trade him we need something decent. Or just resign him. Hopefully no other team will give him that much. I wouldnt mind giving him a reasonable deal. But he has played his azz off this year and is earning some cash

All this means is if Lee gets an offer he likes, he'll sign the offer sheet and make the Knicks match. No one really thinks we're giving him up for nothing, so this may mean some team is going to be willing to overpay some to get him. We'll have to wait and see. Boozer is pricing himself down with his injury history, and the only other big that may be an upgrade over Lee is Rasheed, but he's 34. Lee is playing himself into someone's #1 target next summer.

I think Danilo would be plagued with an injury-ridden career if we make him our power forward of the future.

Cant agree with this. I would run a 3 man rotation with Chandler, Gallo, and Lee at the 3 and 4 positions, with Gallo as the starting SF and Lee at the PF spot. We need to get Curry this off season, sign Joe in 2010, resign Duhon, trade Nate for a pick, and sign Dalembert in 2011

Duhon/Curry
JJ/Curry
Gallo/Wilson
Lee/Wilson
Dalembert/Draft pick received for Nate

Gallo is nearly 7 feet . He's going to end up playing PF in one of these years.

Lee will stay.

Hes proven his value and his character and thats something both D'Antoni and Walsh value.

We will just be letting the market determine his value this summer

there is a reason why the rules are in place. If Lee thinks hes worth 10mil then its up to him to prove it both on the court - which hes done - and off through his agent. If they can land a 10mil offer then we can match it and probably will

If he cant then we wil match whatever the market says hes worth

but Lee is in a strange situation just like AI and Artest and others. Being a free agent the season before all the superstars go is a bad bad time. No one is gonna overspend this year but everyone will next year. Teams that lose a star or dont snag the one they wanted will overspend for 2nd tier guys.

Like the summer when Chi was so certain they could get T-Mac and then had to throw cash at E-Rob just to fill out their roster

Lee's gonna test the waters and perhaps not even sign an offer sheet but return to the club with that offer and allow them to match IMO.

Lees not gonna get huge offers from under the cap teams when they will be looking at Artest, Boozer, AI or the 2010 class instead.

Sorry B&O

So the article says Lee is a Knick unless some other team offers him more money.

OK, glad we got that cleared up.

I'll go ahead and make a sig bet that Mikal is better by RPM this year than Zach.

that would be shocking. No one would offer him that kind of cash really.
