LAL and the Pelicans both making the playoffs really helped the Magic in this mini lottery for 16-19. There was a scenario were it would have been a selection from 18-20.

Said another way, if the Magic gets 16 or 17, it will be from a big THANK YOU to these two western teams.

EDIT: it also matter for this pick that the Sixers made the playoffs. TY philly.

Maybe it matters. We drafted Jett at 11 last year.

16 vs. 20 were the options. And here are the comparisons.

2023
#16 - Keyonte George
#20 - Cam Whitmore
(both show promise)

2022
#16 - AJ Griffin
#20 - Malaki Branham
(both look to be out of the league as soon as the teams can waive them)

2021
#16 - Alperen Şengün
#20 - Jalen Johnson
( two VERY good players)

2020
#16 - Isaiah Stewart
#20 - Precious Achiuwa
(both solid)

2019
#16 - Chuma Okeke
#20 - Matisse Thybulle
(umm, no thank you to either)

2018
#16 - Zhaire Smith
#20 - Josh Okogie
(yuck)

2017
#16 - Justin Patton
#20 - Harry Giles III
(yuck)

Anyhow, this is the sort of player the Magic should expect to draft.

Terrence Shannon sounds very intriguing. But I'd prefer Zach Edey

Looks like they broke the tie between the 47-win teams, among other ties.

The Magic will pick 18th, coming in third of four tied teams, not ideal, but could be worse. 76ers will pick 16th, Lakers (possibly going to the Pelicans) 17th, Raptors (Pacers pick they traded for Siakam) 19th.

I’m good with a center. I’m also now onboard to add another guard sadly.

And-1

Indeed the Magic could have drafted as worse as 20 in some scenarios; so 18 is about the middle. And as I posted above, the differences between individuals in the 16-19 range are invisible.

Orlando is drafting for need if it keeps this pick (university upper classman), it will be a draft-N-stash, or the pick won't be kept. I see no scenario where the Magic drafts this years "Black" or "Howard". The team already has a couple of those players.

FOr example: KyShawn George is 100% my BPA here. And I really really hope the Magic don't draft him. Devin Carter as a 3rd string PG or just trade the pick. please.

Could Zach Edey come in solve our rebounding plus rim protection problem if he is drafted by Magic? He is going to find his role in the NBA. Right now, it all depends on him and his future coaches on how to use him. i can see Edey being drafted in the late teen and 20s range. I do not know how Mos is going to use him. But definitely intriguing

Let’s say he does. Now he clogs the paint when Fran and Paolo attack the rim on offense.

We need to up our pace on offense not slow it down.

There is a reason Edey stayed in college so long at a risk of injury. He doesn’t fit NBA. ALT should draft him.

I agree. He needs to develop a three point shot like Brook Lopez did. But Edey can come in from the bench plus providing that dominate presence in the paint for the second unit. Could it work?

Orlando drafting Edey would be about not-resigning Bitadze. That's really lateral for me. Orlando needs a 3rd string PG more than a 3rd string Center, in my opinion.

BUT: Edey would be an auto fan-favorite. He's just cool.

There's a version of belief that Edey could be the next Steven Adams. Edey could develop the most physical screening techniques of his generation. It would be awesome (particularly for Youtube short clips of opponent guards being pancaked by Edey).

I really like this guy for our team, Dunn, Sheppard and Chomche are on my want list.

Isn't Dunn like one of the worst shooter at the wing ever in this draft? Couple that with his 6'6 height...

Terrence Shannon should be an interesting one. Good volume shooter and scorer plus good defense. Could be a high floor player for us and possibly be in the rotation behind Franz Wagner at 3.

But I just found out Terrence Shannon is actually in a criminal lawsuit right now. He was accused of raping a woman. Is our FO going to take a guy like Shannon?

Yeah, that’s a no.
