Presti is just too smart. Look over their roster and contracts, he isnt going to take Arenas, he isnt going to take Turk

That is absolutely horrible for the Magic. No way they would do that trade and Otis would make history as the worst GM all time there.

No way Magic trade Dwight with Bass while keeping Hedo and Arenas. hahahaha

Latest "rumor" from the Hawks board..

Rather than losing Dwight ORL trades Superman + Duhon (salary dump) to ATL for Horford, Zaza and Marvin and 2 future 1st picks

i didnt say it was a good trade, and didnt say i would do it. I said that is something i could see OKC offering. Presti works his teams very well, from assets to contracts, etc.

Sorry to be rude on that one. Maybe I got caught up in the moment of laughter. But, Presti would work his teams well if he got away with trades like that, as well as Otis.

The problem with this one is that Bass has a favorable contract and is an asset throughout the league because of this. Thus, Magic got to get rid of worse contracts to help their roster if they lose Dwight.

Thus, there would be a 3rd team involved to take contracts like Meer, Hedo, Arenas, Duhon.

But, trading Dwight and leaving a team stuck with Arenas and Hedo for 3 more years would be suicide for an organization.

i've had a decent break from trades, this board, and basketball in general, but i've found my way back here again and i can't help but continue to wrack my brains over trade ideas. the latest:

TOR
in: Nelson, RJ, Anderson
out: Bargs, Calderon, Amir

POR
in: Bargs, Bass
out: Camby, Batum

ORL
in: Batum, Camby, Calderon, Amir
out: Nelson, Turk, Anderson, Bass

SAS
in: Hedo
out: RJ

Dwight/Camby
Amir/Harper
Batum/QRich
JJ/Liggins
Calderon/Duhon

use the amnesty clause on Arenas. now, (operating under the assumption that there IS an amnesty clause AND that it applies to the cap, not just luxury tax) with this deal alone, it would put us at roughly $40-45M. make a couple extra moves, and we could wipe QRich and Duhon (or, at least downsize their deals), so we can have room to retain JJ's bird rights AND sign a max FA.

do i think this team is winning a championship next year? no. i think it would be lucky if it made it past the 2nd round. however, i still think it would be very competitive. for starters, we've got guys who can play defense on the perimeter, and we've got a PG with great passing ability - which means more easy buckets for Dwight and the rest of the crew. we've got another solid defensive anchor in the middle, who can team up with Dwight in clutch defensive moments and put an interior on freeze. throw in a couple more one year signings (Landry/KMart/Battier/etc), and we're looking solid.

best of all, at the end of next season Dwight has the room to go recruit is preferred star. or, if he leaves, we're in great financial shape to rebuild, AND, we have the young assets of Amir and Batum to build around.

--- edit: changed deal to include Anderson going to Toronto for Amir, because it seemed too heavily in our favour. although, the original deal DID clear a big chunk of cap space for them down the line, this does as well, plus gives them a nice young big man to build around.

Personally:

Nelson, Turk, Anderson, Bass >>> Batum, Camby, Calderon, Amir

I like Calderon & Camby and their shorter contracts.

But, Batum has yet to establish himself as a consistent starter. I think he is overrated. People hype him up too much which surprises me. Because, he has moments, but not complete games. Thus, I think QRich would definitely be a starter.

Amir is worse than Bass or Anderson. Thus, he gets paid more than both combined.

But, to cut costs, sure it would work. But, PF would be way too weak as Amir is no starter. This would be an interesting lineup.

It would be a nice move to clear cap space for the forseeable future which the more I think about it, should be the focus by the FO because honestly I dont think we're winning a championship next year. In terms of talent I dont think that team get's very far. I think Batum and Amir are completely overrated as well, and I dont think JJ is a starter tbh. Of course I understand the purpose of such a move is to clear cap space so I dont think it would matter whos overrated or not. However if Dwight left I dont think Batum or Amir are nice players to build around. They're just role players imo.

At least the Magic would rebuild without Arenas and Turk taking up salary.

But, I am not sure Spurs would trade RJ for Turk.

and

Toronto thinks Bargs is their superstar. Thus, I don't think that may be enough. Who knows though.

Would love to see Dwight and Bargs together.

What about Joe Johnson?

Nelson,Jrich,Redick for Johnson,Williams

pg:Arenas,Duhon
sg:Joe,Liggins
sf:Turk,Williams,Qrich
pf:Anderson,Bass,Harper
c:Dwight

Johnson would be the best perimeter player Dwight has played with in his career.

Joe wouldn't do enough to get this team over the hump. He's yet another ball dominant player in addition to Turk and Gil . I think they need more athletic players, Id rather they go after Josh smith or Iggy.

I don't see Batum or Amir being superstar additions, but I see them as younger, more willing players who have something to prove and will come to play every night, unlike Turk/Bass/Anderson. I agree that Nelson/Turk/Anderson/Bass have more talent than Camby/Calderon/Batum/Amir, but I also think they suffer from either bad attitudes, low IQ and declining abilities - if not a combination of those.

The young guys, on the other hand, have a much higher ceiling and defensive potential. IMO, they would blossom under Stan. They may not blossom to the point that they win us as many games as the previous lineup, but they would certainly raise their value and become valuable trade assets should we need to rebuild or trade for a sidekick for Dwight.

The biggest advantage of this move would be the cap space. The second biggest would be the addition of a solid passer/playmaker. The third would be the scoring falling on to Dwight and JJ (IMO, this team needs less balanced scoring and more high volume scoring from particular players).

As for SAS trading Turk for RJ, maybe/maybe not. Pop is a big fan of Turk, if my memory serves me correctly, and RJ isnt doing much for them.

Bargs isn't a superstar. He's what you would get if you gave Anderson the primary scoring role and a greenlight to shoot.

Don't get me wrong, I would do the trade if only to reduce cap space. I agree with most of what you said with the exception of Amir. He really doesn't have that fire you talk about with young guys. I have seen him play since his rookie season and Pistons had already given up on him while he just signed a multiyear contract. What I do like about Amir and Dwight together is Amir has a decent midrange shot. But, I think he is a step down from either Bass or Anderson.

I think the way Anderson is progressing, he can really contribute as he continues to develop. Amir is topped out.

Is Presti really that good of a GM? iirc, outside of Durant and Perk most of his core group are on their rookie contracts....Westbrook's rookie is contract is up after next season, Harden, Ibaka, Maynor's all end after the 12/13 season. Lets see what happends when he actually has to start paying these guys.

EDIT: Excercised contract options. On Maynor, Serge, Harden. I dont know, Perkins didnt show up/injured so he re-signs him to a deal? the contracts currently are fairly easy to manage well see how it all unfolds when he has to keep all those guys together.

i can agree with that. But he also is a bit proactive. Unlike our GM here, when he wasnt positive on Green, he didnt let the market set the price and have to match, he used him to get another asset needed by the team. I agree that we will have to see how he handles players coming off their rookie contracts. He was creative with Collison in keeping him in the fold (who is a really good role player), and seems to have an eye for identifying talent with draft picks.

i would agree he's proactive instead of reactive, However, I dont think any teams would've given Collison another 5 year $33 million dollar contract for 4ppg and 4 rpg, he's a good role player and probablly got paid about what other teams would've paid for his services.

In terms of the draft, He has picked well but he's generally had high draft picks too 2nd pick in 07 (Durant) 4th pick in 08 (westbrook) and the 3rd pick in 09 (Harden). Otis has had to work with middle to late first round picks since he's come in. JJ rounded out to be a nice player, and if you're an anderson fan, he recognized his talent and traded for Gortat I dont Otis lacks an eye for talent. I think financially he struggles to make sound decisions and is probablly a little too risky (Arenas, Turk)
