I know the Magic have been spending like drunken sailors and the challenge of beating the "super friends" in Miami is still a major goal. There is no doubt that Gil and Otis Smith are friends, which frequently lends fire to these rumors, whether they're accurate or not.

Bump. This probably deserves its own thread. Especially since the sauce is "one of the most reliable" on the WIzards forum, and since its exponentially more likely that we get leaks from their side than ours. Much lesser topics (e.g. this one) have garnered their own threads.

Hey, if you want to start its own thread with this, please do, I'm just a guest here passing something along.

I'd rather keep VC, Agent Zero is just another player in decline and also injuries :/

Well Arenas looked like he gotten over his injuries last season before he got booted for the season due to being stupid with guns. I think his injuries are behind him. His mind on the other hand is a concern. Either way, he is only 28 years old and has only played in 42 games the last 3 season (2 seasons he was out due to injury). I think he is probably as fresh as you can be and IMO would be a much better option offensively than Carter, who is 33 and on the decline. I think Arenas would be a great pick up if Otis and SVG can keep his head on basketball and nothing else.

arenas is far more of a go to guy than vince is. even after all the injuries. arenas has the ability to take over a game far better than vince at this point. hate his contract with a passion. don't know if he'll have his head on straight to not do anything stupid. don't know if he'll get injured again.

basically, there are a ton of variables that make arenas a bad option for this team. however, if he stays healthy and plays with a chip on his shoulder, then there is absolutely no doubt that arenas wouldn't be an upgrade over vc.

That is what I'm thinking. It is a huge gamble, but again if you put Arenas in a good environment and IMO the Magic are one of the best in the league, his legal issues will be behind him so in the end it will all come down to injuries, which he sure looked like those were behind him as well until he got into trouble.

This could be the biggest gamble this franchise can make. Very, very, very tough decision. I think in the end the risk is probably not worth the reward.

He's an upgrade over VC. In our offense, players have to be able to knock down shots, and Arenas is a far better shooter than VC. Also you factor in that he's younger. This is quite a risk financially though. You get rid of VC's contract for Arenas's massive contract. If he produces, he's worth the money. If not, we're beyond skrewed.

The only way the move could hurt the team is if Gilbert had more off the court issues. On the court...the guy is still a BEAST and just as talented of a scorer as anyone. Problem is that he does come with a lot of baggage and money owed...But if he can stay right under Otis' watch, it would be a big move for us.

That all being said...

Once I read that it pretty much made me think nothing was going to happen.

I am not knocking Rev, not all sources are right, but he is our most reliable guy and I still don't see CP3 on our roster.

I would think he would be coming in to play SG, which is pretty much what he should be playing to begin with. Either way, Arenas can take over a game offensively or run the offense, while Nelson could play off of him.

I'm thinking the Wizards are probably looking to gain salary cap for next season which is why they would want Carter and his expiring contract. Not to mention I think it would probably be a straight up trade. Contracts are pretty the same. I doubt the Magic give up a 1st rounder or anything considering Arenas' history.

If anything, I would imagine that they would be giving us one.

Perhaps the Wiz front office is not as tight-lipped as Otis and the boys. The Magic front office has been a VAULT this offseason. That's not to say, however, that all GMs exercise such discretion.

I think the ultimate trade for us would be Gortat/Carter for Blatche/Arenas. It works under the cap. Of course I think if this goes down it will be a one for one swap, with the Magic banking on Arenas to return to form, while the Wizards simply starting over from scratch and trying to gain as much cap room as possible for next summer.

That is fine. The season doesn't start until November. That means he has the rest of July, August, September and October to get well. Would probably work himself into the starting rotation through out November. He is only 23 years old and has a big upside.
