Dwight as a 6'11 point guard

Post#1 » by J the Drafter » Tue Aug 31, 2010 9:54 am

How well would Howard have played if he'd become a point guard at his current size, and focused on point guard skills? Would he have the athletic potential to cover point guards and the ability to break them down?
Remember when Kobe elbowed Jameer in the chin so hard Jameer was knocked down and sent skidding across the floor?

Dwight essentially played PG until his senior year of HS. The biggest issue probably, when you're as tall as Dwight and when your arms are as long as Dwight's, is that there is a huge distance the ball must travel between each dribble. Little guys like CP3 and Rondo would eat that alive. Hell, everyone would. Dwight is athletic enough to guard just about anyone, but he's too tall and too mechanical to play PG with any degree of success.

Dwight is actually 6'9 without shoes.

So he's just as tall as Magic Johnson. Why not SVG?

because Magic had mad ball skills. Dwight dribbles off his foot half the time.

He could elbow his way into the paint.

It's funny that this thread comes this summer that he worked with Hakeem, after being criticized for his low post game for so long. I know the OP is not saying he should play PG but...

If we're not the champions, then all of a sudden the stretch 4 is a nonsense system and the reason for all our struggles, so we should fire SVG (because we were rocking b4 him!!!). And no longer part of the reason why we got so far.

Guess what? if we lose TWO games in a row playing Lewis @SF we'll have so many threads and posts about how stupid that move was and how he should be our PF.

There are many examples.

So I wouldn't be surprised if this idea is revisited seriously during a panic thread during a bad stretch.

dwight has no ball handling skills. no way in hell could he run the point. it's cute for an all star game but an absolutely nightmare for his day job

When Howard spins with his post moves, i'm afraid he is going to lose the ball, and we want him to play PG in spurts....
