Welcome back Redick

Post#1 » by MagicFan101 » Thu Jul 5, 2012 9:57 pm

Orlando has picked up the option to retain JJ Redick for another year at $6.19M. This is another strong move. His expiring contract could become valuable at the trade deadline.

Love this move. JJ wants to be here - something the team needs. Hopefully he doesn't get traded, but rather re-signed.

I really like JJ and would be very happy to see him sign a new contract next summer. However, if you take a look at the free agent pool for next year:

http://www.hoopsworld.com/2013-nba-free-agents

there are quite a few rising stars on small contracts who are going to get big raises. I'm not about to go and break down the cap situation of every team in the league, but surely there is a team or two out there in a panic to make room to resign their young star. This might be a very good year to have a $6+ million expiring contract...

I hope JJ gets a nice extension after this season. Something tells me he will earn it.

Welcome back J.J.! He's turned into one of my favorite players to ever grace a Magic uniform and I'm glad he is returning. This is a good move for us whether he is staying here or being used as an asset.

Terrible decision unless he's gonna be traded. Nelson too. Lets just bring back all the players who got their lunch handed to them and kicked out the first round the past few years. Plenty of players we could've picked up that's better.

Name one we could have picked from the free agents pool.

What difference does it make? It is a one year deal in a year which we have no cap room. Even if you don't like Redick the player, you apparently missed the comment of his trade value as a good size expiring contract. We don't have much room to sign players, but we can still trade for them...

Not to get off topic, but since you mentioned Nelson, his contract may be just as valuable. There are a few rumors running around about a no trade clause and / or a team option for the third year. If there is in fact a team option but no trade clause rumor is wrong, then Nelson becomes equally as valuable as a trade option next year.

Hennigan is signing productive players to good contracts. That is already a one up on Otis.

Junkie only posts to bad mouth Redick and to call everyone "delusional." It's like JJ bullied him in high school or something...
