The Magic want to add a tough, inside presence to complement Tracy McGrady, Grant Hill and Mike Miller next year. Like almost everyone else, they would love to sign free agent Chris Webber to fill that need.
But the Magic will only be about $5 million under the salary cap, which won't be enough to attract Webber. That's why sources close to the team say they've already targeted another free-agent-to-be, Raptors power forward Antonio Davis . Orlando probably won't be able to match the offers that Davis will get from Toronto or other teams, but that might not take the Magic out of the running. Davis lives in Orlando during the offseason, and many of his summer workouts will be at the Magic's training facility, so Orlando might have the inside track for his services.
Other teams will outbid us, that's for sure. Do you think Gabriel could make a pitch, sell AD on the idea?
