Would you trade Harkless for...

Post#1 » by thelead » Thu May 16, 2013 9:44 pm

a 5-10 lotto pick in this year's draft?

I love what he brings to the table but I'm liking Harris a lot more as our starting SF. I'm also not sure if Afflalo is going to land us a late lotto pick by himself either. If Rob and his crew fall in love with two guys, it would make sense to flip whatever assets (minus Vuc and Harris) for a second lotto pick.

Here's the scenario, if the draft goes our way:

draft Noel #1, hope for Otto Porter to be taken top 4, hope that Burke falls out of the top 4, make the trade (to the team that wanted Otto, and instead takes Harkless + fillers like Afflalo and/or AN) and end up with:

Noel and Burke :D

Vuc, Harris, Noel, Burke sounds like a better core than Vuc, Harris, Harkless, Noel.

I doubt Burke falls out of the top 4, but would you guys do it?

I'm not sure I'd trade him for a 6th or later pick. He's younger than most of these guys, showed he could play in this league, and got pretty decent potential himself.

This is a tough question imo. I like Harkless, but I am also high on Burke and getting both Burke and Noel out of this draft would be ridiculous. I do agree that Tobias is the starting SF for our team, but I think Harkless can also play the 2. I guess I will read some other responses before I make a decision on it. I guess the question is do you think Burke will be a better player than Harkless?

The pick would have to be rather high though, there is no way that Burke slides past the Pelicans....I think we would have to give up more than just Harkless and I'm not sure that is worth it. I would do everything I could to trade Afflalo instead. I would try something like Afflalo and Nicholson for a top 5 pick first. :)

BMP I thought you were really high on Burke. Who do you want in this draft?

Yeah, it's a tough one for me too... It would have to be the scenario (or something similar) for me to want to pull the trigger; like being able to snag two out of this group: Noel, Burke, McLemore, Oladipo (if they feel Oladipo can be a PG  )

i think his value can only rise with another season. i'd give him that chance, and consider looking to deal him next season if we can get a stud from the draft with his return.

Nope that deal is not fair. We should also give next years first rounder along with Harkless for the 6th pick of a weak draft.

It looks like the soul of Otis Smith is still somewhere around here. Is that you Otis? Knock the door three times if you are there...

Getting Burke and Noel would be awesome but id rather let him play next year and increase his value to get a nice 2014 pick. I'd rather not trade Hark, Harris, or Vuc at all, but I guess if Hennigan feels like he can get a star in return you have to pull the trigger on a deal.

Hmmm we're already having trouble deciding who should be our first pick, likely in the top 4 range, in this year's draft and you want us to trade one of our most promising young players for another selection in a lower seed?

I don't think so..

According to Chad Ford's mockdraft....if the Pelicans were to get the #1 pick, they would draft Mclemore, not Burke. Might it actually be to our benefit for the Pelicans to get the #1 pick if this is the case and for us to get the #2 pick and choose Noel? Assuming this was the case (and let's say for argument's sake that Bobcats got the #3 pick)....then no team down to the #6 pick (Sacramento) would choose Burke. If some other outside team snuck in at #3, then Burke would fall to Kings at #7. I wonder if there would be any trade that could be made to snag Burke from a team #4-#7 if this was the case...

(I understand that they the Pelicans in this situation might trade down the #1 pick to a team wanting Noel but they might not be able to find the right deal).

On a somewhat side note, I wonder if Kings would do something like Tyreke + their pick (we turn it into Burke) for Noel.

It shocks me people would even consider trading Harris or Harkless. Like others have said he's younger, proved he can play BOTH ends to NBA standard and had the likes of Durant compliment his defence, he is only going to Improve. I haven't even spoke about his length or athletic ability.

Today and off-season to me Harkless, Harris, and Vucci are off the table unless a Melo/Durant/James/Paul/Curry etc are in the deal.

Those 3 guys floor in my opinion are starters and valuable role players on a contender, forgetting their abilities the chance to develop young players, a culture and ethos.

To me its not considered

Exactly. Hennigan has spoken pretty highly of Harkless. I think he only deals him if he's confident that there is an even more promising stud on the other end - and that would get me excited.

I'm not advocating it, just throwing it out there for discussion (since we've been discussing Hollister model applications lol). I would be very interested to see the other team's fan base with this trade proposal.

To me it really comes down to where you project Harkless versus where you project Burke (or Oladipo/McLemore). If they're equal, don't you take the pg because of need? If they're not equal, sure, you take the best player. That being said, most of you feel that Harkless will be a better NBA pro than Burke, huh?

All I'm going to say is, just don't get too attached to anyone on this roster because Rob strikes me as a 100% business guy and will trade anyone if he sees fit.

It would not be the worst idea in the world, especially as a draft day trade, so that we know who we are getting.

If we can include bbd somehow, that would be just great.

Harkless would be top 2 in this draft but I'm sold that he is going to have a better career then both Noel and Burke.
