Post#1 » by NEM » Tue Apr 15, 2014 5:41 pm

As the title of the thread states, this is a thread in which we can vote for the following awards (just for fun):

ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Victor Oladipo (ORL), 21/32 votes

Taj Gibson (CHI), 3/3 votes

COACH OF THE YEAR
Jeff Hornacek (PHX), 5/14 votes

MOST IMPROVED PLAYER
Anthony Davis (NOP), 4/12 votes

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Joakim Noah (CHI), 5/6 votes

MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
(4/20/14)

I will leave each poll open for 1 day, and then make a new poll the next day. The following players will be in consideration for their awards:

ROY: Michael Carter-Williams (PHI), Victor Oladipo (ORL), Trey Burke (UTA), Ben McLemore (SAC)

SMOY: Jamal Crawford (LAC), Markieff Morris (PHX), Taj Gibson (CHI), DJ Augustin (CHI), Manu Ginobili (SAS)

COY: Jeff Hornacek (PHX), Steve Clifford (CHA), Tom Thibodeau (CHI), Frank Vogel (IND), Dwane Casey (TOR), Gregg Popovich (SAS), Terry Stotts (POR)

MIP: Goran Dragic (PHX), Lance Stephenson (IND), Gerald Green (PHX), Anthony Davis (NOP), DeAndre Jordan (LAC)

DPOY: Joakim Noah (CHI), Dwight Howard (HOU), Deandre Jordan (LAC), Roy Hibbert (IND)

MVP: Kevin Durant (OKC), Lebron James (MIA), Blake Griffin (LAC), Joakim Noah (CHI), Lamarcus Aldridge (POR), Stephen Curry (GSW)

Please let me know if anyone needs to be added to the list.

I wonder whose going to win ROY here. In all honesty I'm going with MCW, but I'd still draft Oladipo over him, because I believe Oladipo's ceiling is much higher and will be a better all around player. MCW has been fortunate enough to play on a god awful team, and start the entire season, unlike Oladipo. If this was a team award... Oladipo would run away with it.

Should be Oladipo and some of the media feedback is making the race appear surprisingly close. But it's going to be MCW. Victor would've loved to have gotten the touches MCW did.

It's a numbers award. MCW deserves it. I would rather have Oladipo but he just didn't get the same opportunities.

Take McLemore off and add plumlee.
Manu should be there for 6th man. As always.
Pop should probably be an option for coach.
Cousins for most improved.
Dre for defensive player. It's not a blocks award, why DeAndre?
MVP should not include Aldridge under any circumstances. More love for Steph.

I will add Manu. I was on the fence and needed a push from someone either way.

I was debating pop, but he could be on there any year. I feel like the guys I have, have proven more. It's common knowledge that pop is one of the GOAT.

I don't think cousins has really improved. I think his minutes have gone up and his usage so his numbers went up. He still does the same things he has done before.

Jordan is averaging ~14 rebounds and ~3 blocks. It's not a blocks award. He has improved their defense tremendously. He could actually be in the MIP race as well.

Curry over Aldridge? LMA's team was expected to miss the playoffs, while Stephs was supposed to do exactly what they did. And LMA is putting up just as good, if not better numbers.

Voted Dipo for ROY!

I personally think the COY will be the most interesting. All of them deserve the award, but I would love to see either Casey or Clifford win the award.

VO for ROY.
If he doesn't get it, it'll just be another thing for Oladipo to get motivation from as he becomes the best player of this draft and one of the greats in the league. The foundation is all there.

Well pop is coaching the best team in the league by a very wide margin. They have no superstar, no one plays 30 minutes per game, and everyone has been hurt. I don't think you should punish him for being good every year. He has single handedly figured out how to get his team around back to backs. He is the only coach being creative out there.

Cousins is more than just increased minutes. His PER is up six points (top five in the league) . He’s improved on shooting, rebounding and getting to the line. Plus his defense is actually a positive this year. That alone should get him a mention. Not his fault he plays in Sacramento.

Jordan still sucks on D. He continuously gets lost on rotations and he really chases blocks and rebounds. This is the same argument I made when Dwight led the league in blocks and rebounds. Those two things don't equal defense. It's all about being where you're supposed to be.

LMA is an inefficient jump shooter who doesn't help on defense and isn't a great rebounder. That team improved because Lillard took an unexpected leap, Lopez made them tougher on the offensive glass and Wes Johnson was shooting out of his mind. Aldridge is the same guy he always was. An above average PF who isn't great at anything PF do.

Steph on the other hand is the entire offense for a 50 win team. Look at the Warriors on/off numbers for Curry. He is averaging the same numbers that rise averaged in the mvp year with much better shooting. They have no second playmaker at all. Barnes is awful, klay shoots 15 time per game with a PER of 13 and can't really create. Dray Green, Iggy, and Bogut aren't there to score. It's just Steph and occasionally David Lee. This team runs postups for Jermaine O'Neal. In 2014. In terms of actual value, Steph should be there.

Im gonna go for :

Dipo
Gibson
Pop
Dragic
Noah
Durant

Dipo isn't given the same reign as mcw, swap teams and we would see a very different mcw in my eyes.

Hard to argue against Pop. Who would have thought Duncan and Co would lead the league in wins.... again. Just insane.

Damn, just realized I missed the Sixth Man of the Year award.

Anyway, I voted for Casey for Coach of the Year. He's coached a not super talented team to the third seed in the East. And at times, he, and Derozan, make them look really good. I wouldn't be surprised to see them take Miami out in the second round.

Pops will probably get it and he is very deserving, but I hope Thibs gets some votes. What he did this year was remarkable regardless of how they do in the playoffs. He has also done this two years in a row and you'd think teams would have figured out their defense by now. Losing Rose, trading Deng, the odds were stacked against them having this type of year. I actually think their talent level is similar to ours. Hornacek was also great and obviously Vogel and Casey deserve some votes too.

Has to be Pops. Duncan and Ginobili play limited minutes half the time and miss games while the Spurs still constantly win with a bunch of role players all who probably woudn't start or play more than 20mpg on other teams. It don't get any better than that.

Next, have to be Thibedou because the dude lost a superstar and an all-star, then still wins.

Third is Hornecek. He improved his team from last year and almost made the playoffs with a limited roster that does have nice depth.
