Re: Orlando Magic Offseason Tracker
With Gordon on now, where do we stand? What is the floor and how much more do we need to spend?
It is looking like the front office is going to tie it up in players they can include in trades before the deadline or blow them off at the end of the year.

IMO, i think the pecking order for minutes will look something along the lines of:
Vucevic / O'Quinn / Maxiell
O'Quinn / A.Gordon / Harris / Nicholson
Harris / Harkless
Fournier / Dipo / B.Gordon / Willie Green
Dipo / Payton / Price

Eh, I think they are over the Dipo at PG experiment. Not that it went tragically wrong or anything, he was serviceable but I think they reached out to draft Payton for a reason. I'm sure Dipo will run the point in certain line-ups but I think Payton will start along side Vic.

i think that's the longterm goal. but in the short term i think they still want Dipo to develop his playmaking (so he becomes a Manu style wing option), so he'll get early PG nod to help him on that front and let Payton ease his way in. by all star break Payton could be starting though.

Re: Orlando Magic Offseason Tracker
Right now we have 13 players under contract and are $17,448,788 under the cap. I would guess that we waive Maxiell to get down to 12 players and $19.948.788 under the cap, or we could just keep him. Either way, I think we'll fill out the roster from there with summer league fodder.
I see our only dead money going to Davis ($6M), Harrington ($3.8M), and Nelson ($2M).
Victor Oladipo 4,978,200
Ben Gordon 4,500,000
Aaron Gordon 3,326,700
Nikola Vucevic 2,751,260
Jason Maxiell 2,500,000
Tobias Harris 2,380,594
Elfrid Payton 1,998,200
Maurice Harkless 1,887,840
Andrew Nicholson 1,545,840
Evan Fournier 1,483,920
Willie Green 1,448,490
Kyle O'Quinn 915,243
Dewayne Dedmon 816,482

So much money to spend, but what to spend it on... How many Bugatti Veyrons could we get for $17m?

Re: Orlando Magic Offseason Tracker
i missed Maxiell
but at 2.5$M, he should be waived
you can sign an equal talent C, for 1/3rd the cost
and have $ to sign PGs
i do not like Oladipo as a PG
but
it can work while having Fournier at SG, cause he handles well, and makes good decisions
id prefer starting Payton, and signing 2 more PGs. another young and a vet, to show/teach the way
why not start Payton ?
you want another top 5 pick next season.
*
how do people feel about Nicholson ?
is he a quality backup PF ?
or now that Gordon is there, its him and Tobias at PF ?

Re: Orlando Magic Offseason Tracker
Just as a heads up, your Payton and Gordon numbers don't account for them being signed for 120% of their draft slots' rookie scale amount:
http://www.magicbasketballonline.com/20 ... contracts/
Elfrid will make $2,397,840.
Gordon will make $3,992,040.

SF Gordon/Harkless/Marble
PF Harris/O’Quinn/Nicholson
C Vucevic/Dedmond
I am betting Magic think highly of Dedmond. He has been working on his Body at the Magic's facility all summer.
If you watch the Unsel Jr.(summer league coach) lists him as a guy who is going to be here along with Gordon and Payton.

Re: Orlando Magic Offseason Tracker
So, considering we waived Maxiell and counting the correct salaries for our rookies we are $17,968,565 under the cap with 3 roster spots to fill (though we are good with the league min of 12).

Oh yeah. I've really liked Dedmon since his first 10 day contract. He was just bringing an energy that no one else was when he stepped on the court. I think he realized it could have been his last chance in the NBA.
He was very well spoken in his interviews and he seems driven. He's been working hard in the offseason and I feel very confident in him fulfilling the back-up C role for us.

Re: Orlando Magic Offseason Tracker
There is a league minimum for salaries. Orlando might have to pick up an over-priced vet (or two) to get to this min level.
