That's John Denton, he write for olandomagic.com. He was previously a local sports reporter for years and was way better than Schmitz or Bianchi with the Sentinel, sadly he got screwed over at his job but the Magic did the classy move and hired him. He seems like a really great guy though, and I'm glad he got to stay in Orlando and write for the team, I'm sure it was a dream job for him.

Schmitz tries to be a realist but just seems to be negative. I hope eats crow when he gave the SL in game interview and said, we're 4-5 years away from playing meaningful games.

Denton gave great insight when his was with Florida-USA Today.

He's good at P&R, spacing the floor, weak side def, nice guy...

When you look at the picture and our roster, nice signing!

According to the NBA’s SportVU Player Tracking statistics, the Magic ranked fifth in the league in catch-and-sh00t field goal attempts per game last season. However, they ranked 28th in catch-and-shoot three-point field goal attempts per game, meaning that most of their catch-and-shoot attempts were of the generally inefficient long two-pointer variety. The issue was that the Magic’s most talented three-point shooters — Victor Oladipo, E’Twaun Moore, Arron Afflalo and Jameer Nelson — also happened to be their primary ball-handlers. None of the Magic bigs was really a consistent threat from the outside. The end result was that they weren’t able to stack their units with enough shooting and when they did get a drive-and-kick action working, the ball was often being kicked out to a big man whose range petered out around 18ft.

According to the regression model, three-point shooting is twice as valuable from a center compared to a point guard and roughly two-thirds more valuable for big men than perimeter players

Having Frye on the floor for the Magic next season projects to do more than just move some of their inefficient two-point shots out beyond the three-point line or hand some of those attempts off to a better shooter. Putting Frye on the perimeter pulls a big defender away from the basket, opening driving lanes for Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo and cutting lanes for Mo Harkless and Aaron Gordon. It clears a defender from the paint giving Nikola Vucevic, Gordon or Kyle O’Quinn an advantage on duck-ins or on the offensive glass.

A good shooter manipulates space all over the floor and the Orlando Magic have found themselves one of the best.

This is a really interesting article that I think relates to the Channing Frye signing. The author believes there is an enormous positive effect in team Ortg when a big man shoots threes as opposed to a guard shooting the exact same shot.

Reporter: When you try to quanitfy the effect his shooting has on the team, do you look at his net advanced rating when he's on the court versus off the court... is that the top statistic you guys find most valuable?

Hennigan: Those are a little bit over my head, Josh, so we just kinda rely on the field goal percentage, and the fact that he's a good guy, a good teammate.

Not buying it. You don't make good moves like they (the whole front office) do without looking at advanced stats. Plus they visit nerdy basketball stat conventions

I loved his reply.

I like Robbins knowledge of basketball, but Hennigan seems annoyed with him lately. Robbins was the one who asked the question about Frye's shooting.

Is Frye starting for you guys? Or is it Gordon? Has the HC said anything about that?

I'm sure Frye is starting at PF and Tobias at SF to begin with. Gordon needs time and experience before he gets regular starts, I think.

But who knows, he might surprise from the get go. Big name stars have also struggled through SL and found their game at the beginning of the season.
