Coach: Gregg Popovich

Point Guard: Jason Williams // Chris Duhon
Shooting Guard: Tracy McGrady // Dennis Scott
Small Forward: Rashard Lewis // Trevor Ariza
Power Forward: Bison Dele // Derek Strong
Center: Darko Milicic // Kelvin Cato

Jason Williams Stats: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/willija02.html
Tracy McGrady Stats: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mcgratr01.html
Rashard Lewis Stats: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/l/lewisra02.html
Bison Dele Stats: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/delebi01.html
Darko Milicic Stats: http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/milicda01.html

This team is stacked from the wing stand point and while the front court doesn't appear to be that great, they are perfect for what is needed out of them. The majority of scoring will come from McGrady, Lewis, Scott, and Williams but Dele and Milicic have the ability to score. Yet Milicic will primarily be used as a rim protector which he is very decent at and Dele is able to bang with forwards as well. This team as so many different line up possibilities and Popovich is the correct mastermind to run every set to perfection.

Philosophy explained:
I believe i built a very strong and competitive team. I used the 1990s Sonics as a mold and projected their style into today's NBA where i think they really could excel. I am gonna take a strong athletic big man and a force and pair him with an extremely good passer and place shooters all around them. I did a lot of wheeling and dealing to get the guys i targeted after Kemp and Strickland i think they fit absolutly perfectly and will go into each player below. Another key i wanted it my team was players who could play multiple positions and be very flexible. Every key player can play multiple postions and it allows for some tremendous combinations for example if i need to get back into a game or play with a high octane attack with alot of shooters i can use this lineup

Strickland
Smith
Richardson
Harrington
Kemp

On the other hand i could also play crackdown defense and go a little bigger with a lineup of

Strickland
Richardson
Christie
Kemp
Gatling

I think this team is extremely flexible and with a strong NBA champion coach in Rick Carisle who i believe can make these players more team driven and let go of some of the team flaws that have been attributed to them much like he has done in Dallas.

Player Breakdown

Shawn Kemp is going to be my anchor down low and he is going to excel in todays NBA. I understand i might get some flack for playing him at center but i feel that in today's NBA that is the role he would excel in. He was one of the best athletes to every play basketball he was 6-10 230 and could easily hold his own with most centers in this draft. He didnt have 3 point range which i think is an important factor in deciding to play him at center. With his abilities he will open up alot of the shooters in much of the same way Dwight did in orlando.

Now what Dwight did not have in Orlando was a PG of the quality of Rod Strickland. He is one of the most underrated PGs of the 90s he was an extremely good passer and could break down a defense with ease and get easy baskets for himself and others. He made an NBA second team and also lead the league one year with 10.5 APG and averaged 9 APG throughout the prime of his career.

Shooters (Harrington Jrich Christie):
I lumb these guys all together because i think there roles will be relatively similar as shooters but they each are a little better in some areas and bring other stuff to the table excellent athleticism and slicing ability (JRich), tenacious defender and tough (Christie), and crafty scorer(Harrington). I did alot of wheeling and dealing to target these three guys in the third round because i think there games fit well together.

The sixth man:
Kenny Smith i think was a great selection for me and really brought my team together. He is an NBA champion and proved he is big time in the playoffs. He is an excellent shooter and gives me a secondary ball handler outside of Strickland to rely on when offense is needed. Jrich is great but as his career moved out of his prime and his athletic ability drained his ball handling ability was definitely called in to question and i think Smith takes alot of pressure off him. This is not to mention how great of a shooter he was and will be a offensive force coming off the bench.

To conclude i think this team fits together perfectly they help cover each others shortcomings and i think would absolutely excel in today's nba where the 3 point shot is more important than ever.
Fine print disclaimer for Fultz:
I am high on Markelle Fultz. Yes I understand he is not perfect and needs to shoot more and better and turn the ball over less. I would really like to see him play one more year… and I did and he sucks time to move on.

David Blatt played point guard for 4 years at Princeton. For years he was known as the best coach in the world not to be in the NBA. Blatt's won mutliple domestic titles in multiple countries. He's a Euroleague champion and Euroleague Coach of the Year. He coached Russia to gold in EuroBasket 2007 with basically only Andrei Kirilenko, Viktor Khryapa, and Jon Holden being his only good players. The man maximizes his talent, and I'm giving him by far his most talented team he's ever dealt with.
Blatt broke into European coaching as an assistant for another legendary coach in Pini Gershon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pini_Gershon (Euroleague coach of the year in 2005 and 2008).
Blatt is a master of mixing up his halfcourt offenses, and you have to know how to handle the pick-and-roll in Europe. At the same time, on the few occasions he's been given speedy players, Blatt devises ways to free them up in transition. I also have a guy that players fully respect. He's been able to reform and discipline past troublemakers. The team I have is going to out-size and out-muscle any other team in this draft.

I don't need to hype Shaq up. He's the best player in the draft. You either double team him and he kicks out to the 3-point shooters, or you take a risk guarding him with one guy and watch Shaq go for 40+ in his sleep.

Derek Harper has played in 1199 games. There are few guys in this draft that played as many. He had a good 12-year stretch where he was putting up above average efficiency as a point guard. At 6'4", he's big enough to guard any point guard while being quick enough to keep up with any of them. Knows how to throw a pass into the post. Racked up a lot of steals. Can handle both halfcourt and transition offense. He averaged 35.4 3PT% for his entire career. Good 3-point option.

Hedo Turkoglu we know was one of the most clutch players in the NBA from 2007 too 2009. Turk had to 5-to-6 year prime that had defenses not know how to deal with as 6'10" point forward. Based on all of the alley oops and great feeds to Dwight, Turk won't have trouble getting passes into Shaq. Turk was a 38.2 3PT% shooter his entire career and about 41% in his career. Shaq won't be shy to kick out to him.

Gerald Wilkins was a legit 6'6" SG who helped keep the Knicks interesting in the late-'80s and early '90s. He wasn't as great as his brother, but he defended better than 'Nique could. Gerald was known as the 'Jordan Stopper' for a reason. Gerald didn't really start shooting 3s until late in his career, but was still in the upper-30s. Wilkins knew had to get his defender off-balances and make a beeline for the bucket before the help could react.

Drew Gooden at 6'10" we all remember how great he was in 2003. When we give him the right coach that can keep him in check (which Blatt is), Drew performs. Whether it be in Orlando, Cleveland, San Antonio, or Washington. Drew is an outstanding rebounding partner next to Shaq and Gooden is a more than solid defender when he gave a damn. He would care on this team.

B.J. Armstrong was an All-Star in '94. He was the 6'2" floor general that helped the Bulls win those first 3 championships. He was one of the best 3-point shooter for quite a few years and is a career 42.5% 3-point shooter. The man could flat out shoot.

Speaking of awesome shooters, Steve Kerr is one of the greatest of all-time from 3-point range. He's hit numerous clutch triples. Career 45.4% from behind the 3-point line. 5-time NBA champion. 3 times in Chicago, 2 times with the Spurs.

Anthony Parker is a Euroleague champion. He was recruited to play for Maccabi Tel Aviv by Blatt himself. These two have a great player-coach bond together and I'm thrilled I got Parker in the draft. It doesn't hurt either that Anthony Parker was damn good in Toronto when he came back from Europe. A 6'6" wing who can defend and drain 3-balls at a 43-44% clip. Can't ask for much more.

Jeff Turner's best years were in Orlando. Didn't really attempt many 3s until late in his career, but could be groomed into another 3-point threat in the spread-4 world that we live in now. Already partnered up with Shaq in O-Town so they already have the chemistry. Jeff was an adequate rebounder. Plus, he's a lucky lefty.

When Shaq isn't playing close to 40 minutes, John can fill in for the remaining time. Could knock down a jumper and had a huge variety of post moves. A big reason why that Heart N' Hustle team was fun to watch.

Coach: Stan "the man" Van Gundy

PG: Darrell Armstrong / Dipo
SG: Victor Oladipo / JJ Reddick
SF: Ron Mercer / Monte Williams
PF: Horace Grant/ Bo Outlaw/ Larry Kristoviak
C: ZaZa dwight killer Pachullia / Horace Grant

Van Gundy can get alot out of this roster. Great defense. Great shooting. Magic factor all day. All kinds of heart and talent. All of these guys in their prime can play with the best of them. I took ZaZa because of his toughness. Especially on how well he has guarded Dwight over the years. Spme great battles. I have great talent at the point. armstrong per 36 minutes are as good as any PG or better then any other PG who has played here multiple years.y team has intangibiles all over the place. It has shooting all over the place. Great defense all over the place. And also great driving and pick and pop capability with horace and mercer. Dipo and Armstrong give me the best guard Defense and hustle by far. And I have a coach who can get the best out of this lineup and his team. They will compete every night. They can score. Move the ball around. We can go small with Horace at center or bruise with my man ZaZA. JJ and Armstrong raining threes. And i have all the magic factor you will ever need us some. Who out hustles Dipo, Bo Outlaw, Armstrong, JJ Reddick and ZaZa? Not many. And Stan is the perfect coach!!!!

(Sry for posting twice. Im on my phone)

Team Breakdown:

Starters:
'90-'91 (MIP) Scott Skiles: 17.2ppg 8.4apg 40.8%3(1.2 3pmpg) 17.8 PER

Assists in a game record holder had a very good 3 year stretch as one of the top pgs in the game. A very high level competitor, not too many pgs in that era that gave you that production. Only real knock is defense but we managed to draft a few guys that can help slow down opposing guards.

89-90 Dominique Wilkins: 26.7ppg 6.5rpg 48.4fg% 24.6 PER

One of the greatest sfs. Probably the best 1-on-1 scorer in this after TMac. Also factor in longevity - 10x allstar, 7x all nba.

12-13 Matt Barnes: 9.9ppg 4.6rpg 1.5 3pmpg 2apg 1spg 27.5mpg 15.5 PER

Glue guy that ppl love to play with and hate to play against. All championship teams need that Rick Fox, Doug Christie, Kawhi Leonard type, versatile swingmen that defend and shoot the 3. Wont hesitate to give out hard fouls either.

11-12 (MIP) Ryan Anderson: 16.1ppg 2.7 3pmpg(39.3%) 7.7rpg 21.1 PER

Best stretch 4 in this comp. Good enough rebounder per minute (got Barnes to help out as well) for a stretch 4. One of the best shooters in the league. High IQ.

92-93 Rony Seikaly: 17.1ppg 11.8rpg 1.2bpg

1990 MIP and one of the forgotten players of that era. Allstar talent that had bad luck playing during the same time as Shaq and Ewing. Despite the lower bpg numbers actually measures really good defensively in rapm in his prime. Skilled faceup player with good first step. I would compare to a Marcin Gortat but a better defender and rebounder.

Coaching:
Frank Vogel

Career Record: 167-100 (.625 win%)

Besides Frank Vogel being a good coach in general, coaching his team to 2 straight ECFs, taking the champs to to game 7s. I wanted someone that coached to my players "weaknesses". I would say my team is more offensive oriented so I needed him to instill a defensive philosophy. On that same token Vogel has been criticized for his offense, but he hasnt had the luxury of coaching the off. calibre of players of a Skiles at pg, Ryno stretch 4 or a Dominique Wilkins. So it might not make sense to some of you, in the end I feel the balance will be good.

Philosophy:
Coach will emphasis running/transition when given the opportunity. He feels this is one of the team's strengths, with Skiles, Dominique, Barnes and Seikaly. We also feel we will be able to score in the halfcourt with Skiles playing the PnP/PnR with Ryno/Seikaly, with Barnes spotting up and Nique able to bail us out.

Chemistry:
We drafted to play on each others strengths. 1-4 can spread the floor and shoot the 3. This gives Skiles and Wilkins room to operate, as well as Seikaly. Ryno drags out the PF which helps us on the boards.

Also wanted Nique to be the clear #1 guy. We don't have any egos or bad teammates, with competitors and everyone knows their roles.

Defense:
Barnes, Seikaly, Augmon, Rollins and Lee are all higher level defenders. We have guys who can guard not only cover opposing teams best swingmen, but we also have presence inside with Seikaly and Rollins. Barnes and Augmon can also play some 4 if we or other teams go small.

SG - Vernon Maxwell
PG - Brian Shaw
SG - Evan Fournier
C - Dave Corzine

Alright, folks, here's our pitch. We'll try to keep it short and sweet.

We felt we started out in about the worst possible spot -- not at the top of the player draft nor the coaches draft.

Our goal was to form a strong cohesive unit with a clear identity, that despite what it might lack in style points, would win basketball games. We think we achieved this.

The identity started with our coaching selection, Tom Thibodeau, a smart, no-nonsense defensive guru extracting every bit that he can out of his team.

Our roster is built upon the two superstar pillars of Grant Hill and Ben Wallace -- an offensive wunderkind and heir to Jordan's "Best in the Game" Throne, and a defensive stalwart who no one in history has surpassed in DPOY awards.

The roster as a whole is not sexy, but we think sneakily effective.

C - Ben Wallace
PF - Kyle O'Quinn
SF - Grant Hill
SG - Ben Gordon
PG - Elfrid Payton

BENCH

6th Man: PF/SF - Aaron Gordon
SG - Vernon Maxwell
PG - Brian Shaw
SG - Evan Fournier
C - Dave Corzine

The team defense should be the absolute best in the league, the passing should be great, and we expect the players at 1-3 to be able to predominantly carry the scoring load with scorers/gunners/sharpshooters manning the positions. This team should dominate the boards and live at the free throw line.

We'd read that we would be penalized by some voters for taking Payton and Gordon because they haven't played yet. We do not think this is fair. We think this is part of the process of having a team mixed with great veterans and hungry youth providing both a competitive and teaching atmosphere to promote the longevity of the team's success. The rookies were explicitly made available in the rules, and to penalize us for taking them after the fact seems unjustly unfair as some sort of ex post facto ruling against us. We hope you consider this fact when judging.

Thank you for your time,

-The Weisbros

Whichever team has Geert Hammink gets my vote and should win. Bonus points if that team also has Brooks Thompson.
