Orlando's IronMan: Elfrid Payton

Post#1 » by drsd » Thu Apr 16, 2015 6:36 pm

Payton played in his 82nd game of the regular season, becoming the first Magic rookie to play every game of a season since Dwight Howard in 2004-05. Payton also became the first Magic player to appear in every game of a season since Howard, J.J. Redick and Jason Williams did so in 2009-10.

"A rookie point guard is very difficult to incorporate into a team at this level, but he's done a great job," interim Magic coach James Borrego said before tipoff.

He is definitely looking like the player that Rob had predicted he would be. Still very raw and a long way to go but he got off to an amazing start. All he needs is to keep the FT% up and to form a true connection with Dipo on the offensive end. If those two things click...we have a very bright future.

When I first I read "I love him a lot." and I'm like THAT'S ME! But then I saw "I love him more." and I'm like OMG THAT'S ME TOO! Then I saw "I love him most." and wouldn't you know it, STILL ME!

Only player on this team(and AG) that I consider untouchable. With 25 win season, everybody else is open game.

Gotta hand it to Payton, and Hennigan as well.

Payton has exceeded my expectations as a rookie. Seems to have the right mix of personality and 'true PG' skills to run the point successfully and set up not only his teammates, but himself.

Reminds me of a mix between the better qualities of Darrell Armstrong and Jameer Nelson. Looking forward to his future.

This kid is a fighter and a winner. He never takes a play off and is always holding himself accountable for mistakes. He's gonna get better and he's gonna be a BEAST, and he'll make others around him better, too.

not one of the choices, gtfo

He knows. When they mentioned that in his exit interview and asked if he will work with AG's shooting coach this summer, his demeanor changed slightly. He just said he would be open to it and they would talk about it but you can tell he feels some type of way about people harping on that. Best believe he will be working on it.

Elfy gon' prove y'all wrong!!!!!!!

Well good because the lack of a jumpshot is what severely hampers his potential at this point. If he fixes that, that he will be a star. He has significant progress to make.

Thoroughly impressed with him all season. His hustle is unmatched and he really lays it all on the line on every single play.

I think he's a keeper. I still have some serious questions about his shooting, both in the field and at the free throw line. That being said, I like everything else he does.

No one would have blamed Orlando Magic point guard Elfrid Payton if he wanted to take a nice vacation once the NBA's grueling regular season had ended. After all, Payton was one of just 28 players in the NBA to play all of his team's available regular season games and played 2,489 minutes.

Instead, Payton spent the weekend back home in New Orleans in part attending practices for his AAU basketball team namesake, Elfrid Payton Elite.

"I remember being in practices in AAU and getting ready for the summer," he said. "This is a huge part of getting to the next level, especially nowadays. A lot of college coaches are at these games. I want all of these guys to have scholarships and be able to go to college."
