Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

DSJ for me. Best combo of star talent plus fills a need.

I ask the same with DSJ. I just don't see it. He was nothing special in games I watched.

Not sure what you mean. Smith was the unquestioned leader of the team. A dozen or so games over 20 games and only a handful of bad games in single digits. Admittedly, I only watched 4 games of his all season in December, January, and February but man did I come away impressed. He passes the eye test, the stat test, he's explosive, a decent shooter, good decision-maker, improving in pick and roll, intelligent, tough, not sure what else you want in a point guard. My biggest gripes are his sometimes-weak motor and his defense when said weak motor takes control. His ACL injury worries me a little too but not enough for me to think of him other than a top 5 player in the draft.
Isaac on the other hand looked tepid in the games I watched. He didn't look sure of himself, he definitely wasn't the leader or go-to player of the team, and generally looked inconsistent. I remember being so impressed when he exploded for 20 points in February I think and the next game he had like 3 points. And he continued to be up and down the rest of the season. At that point, I lost interest. He looked like there was untapped potential YEARS away (if ever). His shooting stroke looked good but geez was he raw. With a little fire lit under him, he could probably be a great player, like Lamar Odom. I see no fire though.

So it comes down to DSJ vs Isaac? Not DSJ vs Monk?
