UCFs D line had nothing for kstate but was still a game until that moronic roughing the passer penalty… wheels came straight off after that. They were probably extra motivated after losing on that 61 yard kick last week

Yea the defense did not show up. A lot of blame is going towards McClain, who did make a lot of mistakes down the stretch and when pressured. On one possession he held the back scrambling too long and then threw it right to a defender, another time he then held it too long and just ran out of bounds for a 12 yard loss instead of throwing it away, etc. Otherwise he had a really solid game though, and if the defense had done him some favors we have a better shot and might be walking out with a win, but the defense really couldn't do anything to stop K State from marching all over them, and when they did finally get stops they'd make dumb penalties like roughing the passer.

Regardless, came into this game expecting a loss but hopeful for a win so not TOO disappointed. Team can correct some of the self inflicted wounds and get better.

It's also nice that a single loss doesn't ruin the season anymore from a big bowl game perspective, haha. In G5 every loss felt like a dagger to the season. This one stings but there's still a lot of season to play and no real loss in potential ending yet.

Too many dumb mistakes. Roughing the passer penalty when they would have to punt and then I think another personal foul on the same drive late in the 3rd. Next drive a penalty when trying to drive down the field. Looked very undisciplined.

That roughing call imo was the turning point in the game. Giving up 200 yards of rushing to one guy also makes it tough to win.

Probably right. I think we were tied at that point, right? And then it would've been 4th down, they're punting back to us, we had momentum, and it just killed everything. I think there was another penalty a few plays later and Kansas State was marched down the field for a score. After that it seemed the defense lost what little momentum they had, and then Timmy started struggling down the stretch (just made a few bad choices at the wrong time) as Kansas State managed to up the pressure and get some penetration.

Maybe things don't change that much, but have to think it's a different ball game if that roughing the passer penalty doesn't happen.

yep, two 15 yard penalties on that drive. Then with the ball the offense picks up a penalty and Im pretty sure it killed a first down. This type of penalty death spiral isn't exactly a new thing. It's a real shame because that roughing the passer was a straight up low iq play

Losing is one thing. Giving up 29 points in a little more than a single quarter is very worrisome. That tells a lot about a team/coaching staff.

Did jrp play a couple snaps and then couldn’t go? Only got to see bits and pieces of the first half and it was too much. First and 10, run for nothing, 2nd down same thing, blown 3rd down throw and out

JRP isn’t able to run and that’s his primary weapon of choice. He made it a few plays for hearing a popping sound. Those wasted first few sets of downs put us in a hole.
