2023 Draft Receipts Thread

Post#1 » by thelead » Fri Jun 23, 2023 8:14 pm

Plain and simple. Let's have receipts. If you hate our draft, tell us who you would have drafted at 6 and 11 based on how the draft played out.

We can then follow up on this throughout the season.

Me?

I would have went Black and Dick but I support Black and Jett if he was actually injured... so I'm not complaining this year.

So have at it. Tell us who exactly you would have drafted. We want the exact guys (not group of guys) at 6 and 11.

Edit:

thelead:

#6: Happy with AB (would have been happy with Hendricks here as well)
#11: Fine with Jett with the injury intel. Without the intel, I would have gone with Cam at 11.

I don’t watch college ball, I am confused about this draft because I don’t understand why we drafted 2 guards when we have a log jam. We let T Ross and RJ Hampton go because of this and then proceeded to put ourselves back in the same situation.
*Now, I realize that both Ross and Hampton were not necessarily lighting it up for us, I just mean that something had to happen because we had too many guards.

I wanted Kris Murray. I don’t care with what pick, 6, 11, or 36. I wanted his brother as well. I am a huge Keegan fan. I also like Taylor Hendricks for us, only because of the fact that he can defend the rim and can shoot 3s which is what we needed and he would have slid right in without worrying about trading players away.
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.-John 3:16

Go Magic, Go Dwight, Go Vuc, Go Paolo, Go Keegan :)

Think I did this in the Draft Day Thread somewhere. For me, I would've gone Hendricks at 6 then Dick at 11, assuming there was something legitimate in Whitmore's medical/interviews that I would've known about if I had this decision-making power.

I did like Paolo last year, though, and I loved Suggs+Franz the year before that. Cole I was also fine with, so it's not like I'm always unhappy. The last pick I really didn't like was Okeke (yes, I supported Bamba, sadly. Hezonja, too).

And yes, I know that I don't know a damn thing. The thing is that the FO and scouts get paid a lot of money (okay maybe not the scouts) to spend a ton more time than us on this and SHOULD know better. So if they reach, and they end up doing worse than mock draft consensus or the collective brain trust on this board, now that would be pretty bloody damning.

I didn't have a better idea at 6, but I really liked Hawkins at 11.

No problem with Jett the player, just don't want to see him buried behind Franz while Gary Harris starts at 2. I'm banking on our summer not being done...draft was just first phase...or :banghead:

at the end of the day, i would have gone Hendricks and Hawkins.

there, thats my line in the sand. problem is, players develop different on different teams. They may have come here with little playing time and looked very bad. Utah can have Hendricks behind Lauri and learn from him. Hawkins can learn from CJ. Who is Black learning from? Fultz? Cole? Jett going to learn from Harris/Suggs? we may see Franz take him under his wing. will be interesting to watch. I'm likely wrong on my choice of players, i definitely dont do this for a living, and i will root for the team and its players, i just didnt like this draft. I especially dont like it as the team sits now, so i hope some more roster moves are coming. But i think the ownership wants to run it back and try for playoffs, so I am not expecting much roster changes.

Everyone is free to reply but I want receipts

I don't want to hear about Black being a bust if the guy you wanted is also a bust. That's the point here.

I would've picked Whitmore at 11. Keep 36 and select Cissoko.

If the Magic do the right thing and open up a spot for Black at PG, I’m totally good with him as the pick at 6.

If they don’t open up a spot for him, I would have picked Hendricks at 6 instead.

I would have picked Whitmore at 11 regardless.

I would have kept 36 and taken Black’s college teammate Jordan Walsh.

I'm not 100% sure who I would have drafted but I for damn sure would have kept the pick. All these future 2nd round picks are absolutely useless to us. We're not going to draft two 2nd round picks in one year with this FO.

I really do wonder what happened with Whitmore. A guy on the draft board says he heard that there were 'multiple multiple red flags' with him. It didn't sound all medical related to me.

Allegedly he did very poor in the team interviews on top of medical red flags.

Not sure if it’s an maturity thing or what. He’s still only 18 years old.

Probably because he's also allergic to passing, but I would've taken a chance with him at 11 regardless. No brainer for Houston at 20th. They basically came away with the projected 4th and 5th pick. Not sure it'll work out for them but at least they maximize their value with those picks.

Ahhh... I don't think they will bust BUT..

Im game. I'll compare the success of Black vs. Hendricks and Howard with George

Put me down for being happy with Black at 6. I liked him.

Would’ve gone Cason at 11 but he was already off the board. So without making a trade up for Cason I probably take Podz as my shooter. Not unhappy with Jett though.

I mean the position they're at in the draft and what they already had on their roster I don't know where else they could've gone. They drafted guys that compliment the attitude and play style of the team. There wasn't a clear miss we had at 6 and 11.
