New York at mid - 14 at .504
Philadelphia at strong - 9th at .515
Indiana mid - 19th at .495
Orlando at weak - 30th at .435
Miami at weak - 27th at .464
Chicago at mid - 17th at .499
Atlanta at mid - 16th at .502

And for completeness
Brooklyn has weak - 29th at .460
Toronto has weak - 22nd at .488

For Orlando, one might conclude from only considerations of strength of schedule, that at least the 8 seed is a lock and that the Magic is more likely to catch the Sixers than the Pacers. So the range would be from 5 to 8. That's a seeding range were the Magic must play each game hard.

The absolute best the Magic can hope for is the 4-seed and the worst is 9-seed. That range seems to be in stone at this point.
Conclusion: we about to end the season IN STYLE

hype about to reach unreal levels

It will be a real dog-race to see if the Magic or Heat win the South East. That Miami has the tie-breaker is further motivation for Orlando to go out trying to win-every-game.

Add to that: the Knicks freefall will likely extend for another couple weeks with Anunoby and Randle out and the Sixers will not be more than a mediocre team to close out the season, it is not that unreasonable to think that Orlando and Miami are fighting for the 4 and 5 seeds. (depends n the Pacers' run to close out).

To add to the hype machine: currently the Magic is the 3rd hottest team in the east over the last ten games!

Glass half full thought: nobody here is predicting the Magic to finish with a losing record means that we all see Orlando as not-bad!

44 means 14 wins in 27 games. For that 44W, that means a 14W-13L run to close out the season. As Orlando has a combined opponent record of 0.435, that means you see Orlando as the equivalent of a 45.1% team over these 27 games.

For 48, that is a 18W-9L, which is the equivalent of a 58% win rate.

My thoughts: it would be tough for Orlando to only win 44 games this season. Even a major injury and the Magic probably still get to 44. But 48 wins is better than the Magic has been this season. So, this 44-to-48 is probably a good range for Orlando to land on Wins wise. That's an expectation from the 4-7 seed.

my lower prediction is based upon the potential for random injuries.

I predicted 45 wins and a first round playoff exit before the season started and I'm sticking to it. I remember that felt like such an optimistic pipe dream at the time, but wow has this team developed well this season.

This offseason is so crucial to the future success of this team. We should finally see some decisions on the current roster that telegraph what the next several years will look like.

Haha I am quite pleased with this, actually. This is a pretty conservative model

Reasons to make it to 50+

Bench is rested and ready to go.

Paolo + Franz are getting the defensive attention they deserve. This is going to open up the floor one way or another. I am slowly watching Paolo ast trend upwards as he learns to read players. Even Franz + AB communicated a lob last game.

Fultz is out. Which opens up hungry players for his minutes.

Another reason, in a world where Paolo and Franz are the best young duo of all time they lead their team to 50+.

So, if you believe they are a historically great young duo then you expect their team to win 50+ games this season and 55+ next season.

I'm a believer because they've earned it so far.

By this time next year our Dynamic duo will be an upcoming dynamic trio. Will it be AB, or will it be Suggs? Or will Howard have a meteoric rise even though we love to hate on him?

Guys, optimism is free.

Hehe you get me

I think Suggs has the highest ceiling of the 3, personally speaking.

15 home game and only 11 road games:

57 @ Detroit Pistons
58 @ Atlanta Hawks
59 Brooklyn Nets
60 Utah Jazz
61 Detroit Pistons
62 @ Charlotte Hornets
63 @ Washington Wizards
64 @ New York Knicks
65 Indiana Pacers
66 Brooklyn Nets
67 @ Toronto Raptors
68 Toronto Raptors
69 Charlotte Hornets
70 New Orleans Pelicans
71 Sacramento Kings
72 Golden State Warriors
73 Los Angeles Clippers
74 Memphis Grizzlies
75 Portland Trail Blazers
76 @ New Orleans Pelicans
77 @ Charlotte Hornets
78 Chicago Bulls
79 @ Houston Rockets
80 @ Milwaukee Bucks
81 @ Philadelphia 76ers
82 Milwaukee Bucks

The Magic will be favored to win for the next 7 games (a 5-2 record to be expected???). And see that huge 8-game home stand.

Yes from game 76 there are a lot of road games; but these are either games against tankers or teams ikely to be resting stars when the Magic is fighting to stay in the playoffs over the play-ins.

If I gambled, I'd take the over on that 47. To get to 47 is a 16-10 close out 61.5%. But as Orlando is playing 55.3% ball now and has opponents playing at 42.8%, that projects as an expectation to win 64.6% of the final games, or a 48-34 record. That's if the Magic plays as they have. If the team gets hot, 50 wins is still a plausible win total, albeit quite unlikely.

Return to Orlando Magic
