So, do you think Franz is worth the Max?
Maybe a low-end max contract. His lack of outside shooting is alarming. In theory, he'll be much easier to stop in the playoffs because he doesn't make outside shots.

what is a "low-end max contract"?

Probably somewhere between $25 - 30m starting contract.

Maybe not if a contract starting in that range isn't considered the max.

The literal definition of a "max" contract is the maximum amount of money allowed to a player by the collective bargaining agreement.

So no, 25-30M would not be a "max" contract or even close to it.

Franz is eligible to sign for 25% of the salary cap this summer. The 2024 salary cap is projected to be 141M.

25% of 141M is a contract that starts at just over $35M with 8% increases each year.

So 25-30M per season would be far less than the maximum contract Franz could sign.

So far this front office have managed not to generate bad contracts, or at least not a big ones if you count Fultz and Isaac into bad contracts.

Depends on what you consider a “bad contract”.

Are two of the top 3 highest paid players actually playing 60% of games on those contracts?

the 25-30 range seems fair, maybe also an agreement to keep his bro at a suitable rate too.

Geez...I don't care if he plays defense in a wheelchair...we need THAT - at least, on occasion off the bench.

Maybe this explains the disconnect about rookie extensions...there's only ONE definition and amount. Franz should be given a large extension, not a MAX extension. Cade will get a max because (A) he's really good (B) they have nothing else and can't risk losing his trust...generally, a #1 overall should end up as a max rookie extension or he's a disappointment. Paolo will get a max. Franz is great, maybe an All-Star someday - but he's not a Paolo level star and doesn't project to be. Max salaries don't drop out of the sky - they can cripple a team for being overly optimistic/foolishly generous or just desperate and an unattractive situation. I'd say Suggs at $25, Franz at $28-30 is the right level. I'd also say Suggs is more likely to outplay his contract. Franz will be very very good for a long time, but I don't see the same ceiling.

Any thoughts on G-Harris going +29 on zero points scored? That must be close to an NBA record for a pointless performance!

He is going be fine next year. I don't expect Gary Harris back unless he takes a nice paycut.

He played great defense, and brought good energy.

That's what I love about this place. We will look painfully at every single possible stat to justify any trash performance.

That being said, I agree. His feet on the floor must have leaving the lanes wide open for everyone else.

Even Fultz made a shot last night. No idea how. Is he having what Black has for dinner?

Anyone find the statements about how if Suggs scores on the first Magic possession he goes on to have incredible games interesting? I wonder if that is true.

Sheeesh as bad as Franz 3s has been, i remember that 12-15(???) Record we had with him out

It is now reported that he did then have an MRI which revealed: right ankle sprain.

And he is listed as "questionable" for Tuesday, meaning he is not "out". I expect him to sit one game and then be back in action.

Guy was tops in Plus/minus every year just because he always shared the court with KD
