OT: Chinese Team Cheated in Gymnastics

Hackers have found evidence that two of the Chinese athletes lied about their age. To compete in gymnastics you have to be 16 years old. Hackers have found evidence that they are 13 years old, or possibly younger. The Chinese gov is trying to cover it. If this is true they need to strip the team of their gold medals and give them to the US. Also the girls need to be banned from the next 3 Olympics.

Well that was freaking obvious with out even having to check. All you had to do was look at them. One of the girls was still shedding baby teeth lol. This is not the girls fault though, its their handlers and the Chinese goverment who obviously bent the rules on purpose, they were given passports that said they were 16. When reporters found a website from late last year stating that some of those girls were 12/13 it was removed by the Chinese immediately lol.

Do I have a problem with 13 year olds competing? No. But rules are rules and they purposely broke those rules. At the very least they should be striped of those medals they won. Maybe even suspensions to teach them a lesson. How embaressing for China but they knew what they were doing.

they need to strip them and the deal on individual uneven bars where usa had that tie with the 12 year old alien looking kid. they should pass it on over to the americans

And yes, it is quite obvious that some of those gymnasts are under 16.

Ban China from the Olympics full stop.

We are way to lenient on cheaters in modern day sports. If you cheat, thats it, game over, you've ruined your career then and there. If a nation cheats, thats it, the entire nation has had it.

My guess is they were pedophiles instead of hackers, given the girls' appearance :-?

I agree with damo, however China can't be banned from these games: the next ones is another matter and I'd love to see them kicked out of London in 2012.

Hackers didn't find this out. The New York Times did. Before the Olympics even started. All they did was go to websites from previous competitions and check the birth dates of the competitors in question. Once they published the age discrepancies, the websites "mysteriously" went down.

No way the IOC does anything about this anytime soon. It's the host country and there are too many potential customers to lose (about 1.3 billion). So much for the Olympics being politics-free...

The sad thing is that probably this will be the thing that will happen. Nothing will probably be done because they dont want to upset the Chinese this being the host country and all. There was a chick from China i believe in one of the last olympics that later admited that she was 14 at the time she won a medal and nothing was done. They have gotten away with it before so they figure they will again. What should happen probably wont happen. Sad.

yea i read a similiar report right before the olympics started, said she was 13 and an up and coming star in the sport, but she did so well against her other fellow gymnast that they put her in the competition instead, so they shot themselves in the foot, but its in china, they will get away with it and we just have to take it

Thats the way i first looked at it, but their bodies are more limber and weigh a lot less, and have been through less wear and tear than 16-20 year old gymnasts. it makes it easier to do some of those maneuvers they do if trained right and its cheating which should not be allowed in any olympic event.

The sad thing isn't that they have to worry about losing those "customers"; rather, the fact that those customers wouldn't be outraged at the lying and cheating.

I don't think the entire country should be banned from this or the next olympics. Instead I just think they should be banned from competing in the event(s) that they 'were caught' cheating in.

ya just in the woman's gymnastics... they are great athletes but they definitely cheated in the woman's gymnastics... and i dont know if any of you watched the platform diving but the Chinese in that event do not look 16 at all either
