Amazing how winning the Slam Dunk competition really helped show his great personality. Ever since then the world is falling in love with him.

The other thing is there is no competition at the spot for him to take away the votes. So I think it's a little deceiving, I have doubt that he's the league's most popular player.

^^Definitely the case.

He is one of the league's more popular players, but the lack of competition at his position is what has catapulted him above the Kobes and LeBrons of the league.

Still pretty cool, nonetheless.

There is a huge surge of votes just before the voting stops. 400K seems quite doable.

I have a feeling Hedo is getting votes after the MIP recognition last season, along with a certain percentage of votes from his homeland.

Lewis actually has an outside shot of getting in on a coach's vote, sort of like what Hedo had last season.

i assume that a lot of chinese people are actually voting for dwight because of his growing popularity in china. that combined with the fact that the east has NO other center gives him a great chance at breaking the record

Bingo. I think our trip to China during last year's preseason (where we beat LeBron's Cavs twice) went a long way towards winning over the Chinese people. You combine that with Dwight starting for the gold-medal winning Olympic team (conveniently also in China), and of course the complete lack of competition at his position, and you have a recipe for one of China's favorite players. Plus, we're pretty fond of him here in America too. :D
