Marquis Daniels "It'd mean a lot to come home"

Post#1 » by purplehaze89 » Fri Jul 17, 2009 5:34 pm

http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/sports_magic/2009/07/free-agent-marquis-daniels-gives-back-in-his-old-neighborhood-talks-about-the-orlando-magic.html

To that end, Daniels said the Orlando Magic have called "a couple times" and are among about 10 teams who have contacted his agent. He listed Dallas, Boston, New York, Charlotte, Houston and Chicago as options. A sign and trade is one option he said might come through.

Daniels kept quiet about where he wanted to end up. But there are two reasons Orlando would be attractive to him.

1) He expects to end up with a contender.

2) He'd love to play in his hometown. "It'd mean a lot," Daniels said of that possibility.

"I pretty much got my mind made up just gotta figure out small stuff," Daniels said. "...They’re working things out different ends, different teams."

I mentioned a while ago that the Magic should try to get Daniels to add depth at the Guard spots, I don't know if we can now.

I'd love to have him, but not sure if we can afford him. Don't use the TPE in a sign and trade situation, we need that for later in the year in case anything happens.

Wow, I must say... I'm really impressed. I've seen your posts. You really know what you're talking about. I just wish Otis would share your thoughts. You deserve a lot of credit for mentioning this a while ago.

I would like to have him. And think he'll accept our remaining MLE.

But he can't shoot.

I like his game. Always have, but the trouble he has been in has me concerned. Still he would bring some added depth to the bench. Id like this move better than Barnes or Wafer. We have enough shooters, we need more guys that can penetrate and kick or finish. I also love his defense. Just want to know where his heads at..

He could play backup PG....no really he can!

I personally like Barnes better, but Daniels is cheaper and can do many of the same things.

I like Daniels but I really doubt he would sign with us for what we can offer him.
He would be a very good addition, but I dont think we can sign him.

I just looked up his salary he was making 6.1.. So i'm not sure about that. Unless he really wants to come back home and takes a pay cut to

Yep, I like Marquis. And he is a good defender. But Otis likes to surround the team with shooters. I'll gladly take him though if Barnes falls thru.

I doubt he'll get a bigger offer than what we can offer.

I always thought of him as a cheaper Josh Howard, would be a great role player, espeically adding the fact that he would be playing for his hometown.

I think its pretty much a lock that he comes here. Hes from here and said it would mean a lot to come home. Either Barnes or Daniels would be good. Daniels is more explosive and he is more productive. I'm sure he can play defense. I actually might prefer Marquis.

Edit: It just hit me, Daniels reminds me of DeShawn Stevenson so much. They're both slashers, defenders, and energy guys. Yeah, I would definitely prefer Marquis.

^^G_MoNeY, can't say I agree with that. I think Barnes is cheaper for what he brings to the table. Energy and hustle and is reliable to knock down the 3ball. Although Daniels brings the same energy and hustle to a team. He's better than Barnes on defense, ability to slash to the post, and versatile ability to play multiple positions on the roster. For that I feel Barnes is cheaper b/c he brings less to the table where as Daniels brings more to the table and probably makes him kinda expensive depending on price.
