AJ trash-talks the Cavs

Post#1 » by Super_Mario_3 » Fri Jul 17, 2009 10:58 pm

In between rounds of golf and summer basketball camps this offseason, Anthony Johnson has taken notice of the recent major changes in the NBA's Eastern Conference.

Johnson's take: Vince Carter to Orlando will boost Johnson's Magic team; Shaquille O'Neal to the Cavaliers "doesn't really change things."

"Shaq is always a force to be reckoned with," said Johnson, the veteran Orlando point guard and former College of Charleston and Stall High School standout. "But he's slowing down quite a bit, and it doesn't really change things with how we match up with Cleveland."

I pretty much agree, although it puts a much bigger body on Howard. It does help them but not as much as some think.

AJ speaks the truth.
I like how the Magic handled the Cavs in the playoffs, and I don't think having Shaq will change their approach on that team.

The majority of Cavs trolls (LebronCavs, etc.) stick to the player comparison board where they insistently argue that Lebron James will win 6 rings by the time his career is done.

Hes not that far off. The Cavs really didn't do anything to help them match up with us. Shaq is gonna guard Dwight? Parker is gonna guard Jameer? Vareflop is gonna guard Bass or Rashard? Delonte or Mo is gonna guard Vince? The only matchup problem they give us, and every other team in the NBA, is LeBron. But we saw what happened when he went 1 on 5. It was pretty good for us. All we gotta do is guard everyone else tight and let LeBron try to do it all himself.

Maybe if he joins the Lakers. But not in Cleveland.

Pretty much stating facts...the only change is now we have bass to help us grab extra rebounds, and VC to finish over Hedo

I think if you put McGee back then, he would get those blocks just as easily as Russell did. Russell's athleticism was well ahead of the players of his time, and that's about it.

what people dont realize is that the acquisition of shaq, forces lebron to shoot more.

the reason why lebron could drive so much last year was because z is a jump shooter and varejao was essentially their center. having both varejao and shaq down there, clogs the lane for lebron forcing him to shoot. shaq isnt as dominant offensively as he once was and is inferior to dwight... their games dont complement each other well as many think
I live rent free in your head. You know who you are :D

Not changing this sig until Magic win a championship. Started 6/26/2015.

their problem vs us was mobility up front and athleticism, they have addressed zero of those issues

I disagree completely. Cleveland did a few things well this off-season. Here is the way I see it...

1. Shaq is not going to help against the pick and roll..obviously. But he isn't worse than Z, so no improvement there but it won't hurt us either.

2. Shaq will be a much better 1 on 1 defender than Z or Andy were. Orlando had good success when they isolated Dwight in the post because he was so much stronger. But Shaq can do a decent job on Howard 1 on 1, forcing Dwight to make basketball moves to score instead of just over-powering opponents.

3. Shaq will make Dwight work on defense...that's for sure. Shaq needs to be given attention to. That will help wear Dwight down over a 7 game series, then Cleveland can throw Z in off the bench.

4. Cleveland doesn't really need an athletic PF to start against Lewis. Andy guarded him to start games and Cleveland killed Orlando in the 1st quarters.

5. Cleveland added Anthony Parker, and he can help move LeBron down to the 4 spot to guard Shard. Parker is a solid defender that can come off the bench and guard Vince Carter.

Cleveland added Anthony Parker. He can come off the bench, allowing LeBron to slide down to the 4 and guard Lewis.

So a 34 year old spot up shooter is supposed to make the difference?

put in Parker, and put Lebron on Lewis, Vince and Jameer will just kill the cavs back court.

Plus, Shaq's terrible at guarding the pick and roll.

and shaq will wear down dwight? there is not a player in the league more well conditioned than dwight howard, has he ever looked tired to you?, Shaq cannot guard Dwight anymore, anyone that watched them last year saw it plain as day

I have to wonder what's in the water in cavland.

Parker can guard Vince, since when?

nevermind the fact we'll have Jameer who owned Mo Williams last year.

We'll beat Cleveland the same way we did before, an up tempo style which Shaq absolutely sucks in.

The Cavs are going to be really good at flopping, though. Shaq's flopping skills have developed tremendously.
