Kobe: "I'd like for us to go back to the old rules"

There are a couple angles I would like to take this...

If the NBA did go back to old rules of only man-to-man and allowing tougher defense on guards...how would it affect the Magic? Would be benefit? Would it harm us?

IMO, it would take away from Dwight's ability to leave him man and play help defense. The majority of Dwight's blocks come from him helping on D...taking away that extra step or two that Dwight can slack off his man in preparation to help.

In the same sense, it would give Dwight a little more freedom on offense. Teams would either double hard or not at all...allowing Dwight to pick apart the defense a little easier.

As for the handchecking...I think that we would suffer greatly. We are not a tough team at the PG/SG spot. Jameer is a tough little guy but he would get pushed around. Vince is no longer quick enough to get through the contact and JJ is not strong enough.

I say do away with the zone D and let our guards have their space to operate.

I wish the NBA would let teams play more physically; like they did in the 80's.

There's so many ticky-tack calls that just kill the energy and momentum of games.

Better for Orlando. Much better. I think Meer could handle the handcheck. It would weaken LeBron and Kobe. They'd still be great, don't get me wrong, but the current rules make the game easier for guards.

Lewis could better play the three if he can keep a hand on the opposing three.

It would force teams to double Dwight hard or not at all. It'd open more room for our shooters. Our offense is predicated on a lot of slashing.

Going back to old rules would make the Lakers and us 1 and 2. I feel very confident about that

It's funny cause im pretty sure Kobe would be the one defenders would love to play more physical with.

Good thing Artest is on his team, ;)

I gotta agree with Kobe on this one. The game was much better before the NBA allowed zone defense and banned hand checking. I hate seeing fouls called thirty feet away from the basket just because the defender has his hand on the player. The game should be more physical. The NBA has all but taken defense out of the game.

This would probably help our team more. However, I don't wanna see the knicks or pistons style of play where decking somebody is considered "good defense"

LOL @ the irony. The guy who screams foul every time he gets stripped of the ball, or someone lays a hand on him asking for the old rules
