Why is it that? Better after leaving Sixers
When a player leaves Philadelphia now the league wants to notice them, but when we seen it all along everyone was calling them scrubs on this team. Examples; John salmons,Kyle Korver,Larry hugues, Raja bell and probaly Sammy will be next.

Re: Why is it that?
I think some of those like Korver and Hughes were recognized while they were here, we probably just notice it more when they aren't because we're a fan base that usually hates our own players. Others like Bell and Salmons are explainable since Bell was the same type of player for us here but very young and undeveloped and then Salmons was on the team with Iverson so obviously he isn't going to show off his offensive game too much. Dalembert is yet to be seen and I think will not really do much more than he did here, especially since they have Cousins to take his minutes away.

Re: Why is it that?
Philly is a tough city to play in. It's not an inspirational place to perform. I think that playing here makes players better for when they finally leave. During the time that athletes perform in this city, I don't think that we see their best for the most part. Some players thrive here, but I have learned that if a player performs well here and wasn't a system guy, he will be better elsewhere if he leaves in his prime.

Re: Why is it that?
Stackhouse was seen as a possible franchise player, and we traded him for an unknown in Ratliff. We also developed McKie and Snow. So it works both ways.
And plenty of stiffs like Bradley have come and gone without turning into anything worth keeping.

Andre Iguodala is the most hated athlete in Philly right now IMO. Everyone says he sucks and needs to be traded even though he's our best player. Philly really is tough and its ironic that its called the "city of brotherly love".

Let's list all of the Sixers players who have had a better career before or after Philly and compare them to the players that were better as a Sixer. BTW no excuses or rationalizations, just allow the production to speak for the player.
Before or After:
John Salmons
Raja Bell
Bruce Bowen
Elton Brand
Toni Kukoc
Glenn Robinson
Tim Thomas
Larry Hughes
Jerry Stackhouse
Jeff Hornacek
As a Sixer:
Eric Snow
Aaron Mckie
George Lynch
Theo Ratliff
Clarence Weatherspoon
Dana Barros

Glenn Robinson

Larry Huges has been stealing money from day 1.
I dont think people hate Dre, i think "some" want a new freshness with this team and they are willing to part ways with him.
Im fine with Dre as long as he doesn't try to channel his inner Reggie Miller.

Your list:
Before or After:
John Salmons- Only a Sixer in his formative year. On other teams in his prime.
Raja Bell- Was a Sixer for about 2 weeks before he caught on as a regular in the NBA.
Bruce Bowen- See above
Elton Brand- Joined Sixers after career altering injury. On back end of his career. Same as Webber
Toni Kukoc- Joined Sixers well after his prime
Glenn Robinson- See Above
Tim Thomas- Was as good in Philly as anywhere
Larry Hughes- Had one good year outside Philly
Jerry Stackhouse- Had his best seasons in Philly where he scored 20+ pts and seen as the team's best
Jeff Hornacek- Had his best seasons in Philly
As a Sixer:
Eric Snow
Aaron Mckie
George Lynch
Theo Ratliff
Clarence Weatherspoon
Dana Barros
You forgot AI, Barkley, Cheeks, Moses and Andre Miller all had their best years in Philly.

Well to be fair, nobody wanted Korver to leave. He was respected as a Sixer. Also, we knew John Salmons was a good talent, alot of people here compared him to a poor mans paul pierce. But he thought he was better than he was and that caused friction with Iverson leading to his departure. I still dont think much of larry hughes

Stackhouse and Hornacek both were All Stars outside of a Sixers uniform. You went wrong somewhere there...

Because we don't know how to apreciate our players.Sammy was a top 5 rebounder and a top 5(maybe top 3) shot blocker but people were bashing him for 2 stupid f**** TO/game.The people of Sacramento will apreciate him.

I would not bet on that, dalenbert leaving philly = 10 plus wins alone.

I guess if you want to only look at their #1 best statistical year, you are right.
But both players peaked at age 26-8 as players typically do. Neither was in Philly at that age. Borth had some of their best seasons as a Sixer. Hornecek joined the team at age 29, and played as well for the Sixers as he did for Utah considering his age. His numbers slowly dropped off after he peaked at age 26-8, but his Philly numbers were consistent with the rest of his career arc. But you do not generally get All Star consideration when you are playing on a losing team.

I'm surprised Matt Barnes hasn't been mentioned yet.

Re: Why is it that? Better after leaving Sixers
Getting a guy past his prime or who gets injured or having a young player leave and get better as he enters his prime has nothing to do with Philly. Some guys had difficulty playing with Iverson and he was a terribly difficult player to build a team around. Otherwise, none of this holds any water.

Re: Why is it that? Better after leaving Sixers
I think this really goes for any team in the NBA... Every team lets a good player get away sometimes.
Looking at though I think we let as many players get away that become good about as much as we draft good players.
I remeber not wanting to get rid of Matt Barnes. I always thought he was going to be good. Salmons I can understand because it seemed like he was just never going to get it while he was here.
I am hoping for good fortunes with Spencer Hawes. Maybe we get lucky for a change.... So far so good with getting the second pick and drafting Evan Turner. If Hawes blows up this year I think we are in a much better position to win than given credit for.

Why is this a big deal? Would Iguodala be a better player if he leave the 76ers? I don't think so. It's just a matter of landing to a team that fits the player better.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.
